When my XPS M1530 is running, and I close the lid, it goes into a sleep state. No matter what I do, I seem unable to wake it from this sleep state. The screen remains black.
What am I missing?
Could the fact that I've installed Windows XP have something to do with it?

I don't think so , Try Pressing the Power Button for 2-3 Secs bro it should wake up from Sleep State .... Don't Press Too Long or it will switch off

I just bought the XPS 1330 and from the first use I have experienced the same problem. The power button doesn't do anything (apart from switiching the computer off if pressed for too long)
I will appreciate any clue as I'm not sure if this problem comes from Vista, hardware or me missing something but as the computer is not even 2 days old, I am seriously considering sending it back to Dell and switching for a Mac ... -
Have you tried the latest BIOS update ? A08 I beleive
-
Thanks for the clue. I would certainly take a chance on an older computer but I don't really want to touch the BIOS on just a few days old computer...
In addition to that, the computer is often not shutting down. So I won't look further and will send it back to the factory... -
I got my laptop yesterday .. and I have the same problem (Bios is A08). I have changed in the power options to disable HDD/Display sleep with in power and also the action to None when the lid is closed.

guys.. there is a setting under 'power options' > 'change plan settings' > 'advanced' that will allow you to change this. It's not BIOS.. it's OS options. ...

I am having the same issue with my m1330 received earlier this week, BIOS A09.
As for wooties comment about changing the setting in the OS option, the issue is not that we do not want to computer to be set to sleep when we close the lid, but that we cannot wake the computer from sleep mode upon openning the lid and/or touching the touchpad/keys. -
calikitkat: I mentioned lid option because thats the solution to make sure the laptop does not go into the sleep mode..
So, To summarize:
1. Wake-up from Sleep state does not wakeup the display (the the problem is not with Vista alone .. happens with XP also)
2. To stop it from getting into sleep mode, changethe power options to disable HDD/Display sleep with in power and also the action to None when the lid is closed. -
i have this problem on my 1530- when i close the lid sometimes it quickly (5-10sec)goes sleep mode and the power button on the front flashes but most of the time it can take ages and not go to sleep mode (10-15mins), and wen opening i have a blank screen and nothing i do can wake it up... need help!!!!

So I'm having the same issues here after I installed SP1 on Vista. Now when the laptop goes into sleep or hibernate, it won't wake up. Eventually it shuts down and when I restart, it says that "Windows did not Shutdown properly" and asks me if I want to restart in "Safe Mode"
Anyone know any fixes for this? -
Did anyone figure out a solution for this problem yet ?
A person I know has been facing the same problem with his XPS. He bought it jus about a month ago. The laptop doesnt wake up from sleep no matter what he does, ultimately, he has to turn it off by holding the power button for a longer time and reboot the computer altogether.
And also, sometimes, the laptop doesnt shutdown. The screen gets stuck at "Shutting down" screen with the blue spinning wheel....thats it, it doesnt move any further. And ofcourse ya, this laptop has vista on it wid 4gigs of RAM. Also, he has the latest BIOS....supposedly version A12. He re-installed all the drivers and has the latest updates for vista along with SP1.
Please update this thread if anyone finds a solution for this problem.
