I currently own an XPS M1730 and am in the market for a new laptop. Initially purchased an E1705 which was replaced by warranty for an M1730 two years ago because I demanded a 17inch laptop with an equivalently beautiful LCD - apparently the 1920x1200 Truelife screen was no longer offered by Dell on anything other than the M1730, so they had offer it.

As I now need more portability, I can no longer afford to deal with an 800 lb. laptop. However, in my browsing of Dell's offerings, I notice that there are a bunch of different options for LCD screens (RGB LED, FHD, etc) and I am a bit confused by it all - back when I purchased my E1705, there was the regular screen and the Truelife, and I believe that was it!

Can I ask: What is the *best* screen that Dell offers in the 15 inch range? What do folks think is an optimal resolution for a screen of this size, given my love of the 1920x1200 17inch? I'm not a photographer or graphic artist, but I've always loved a crisp, photo-quality display even if the resolution made me squint a bit. :)

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

The widely accepted best 15" screen is the FHD B+RG LED screen on the XPS 15. Most of the 720p screens for that system are weak apparently, but the FHD is beautiful (and glossy).

For your history, FHD would be the way to go. There are only 2 resolutions for a 15", 720p (1366x768) and 1080p (1920x1080).

The best 15" display is on the M4600 and elitebook, the RGBLED IPS display. But is it trice as expensive as the xps 15 in my country...

Well true there, IPS screens. I wasn't thinking there...
