I see that Bestbuy has the Dell XPS X1330 on sale for $949. I was impressed at how loaded this laptop is but upon looking through forums I see there have been alot of issues in the past with the video card, heat, etc... and alot of very unhappy customers. Have these issues been resolved? Is this a good reliable laptop or is it better to steer clear? Please advise.

That's a good deal and have been ambivalent on buying one. I have the 1530 and it's great. I'm debating to get the 1330 or a 10" netbook. I think they're lowering the price to compete with the netbooks or a new XPS model is coming out. As far as the GPU Dell is extending the warranty after the original one runs out. Even nVidia doesn't know how many GPUs are affected and since major manufacturer are using it including HP and Sony they are are extending the warranty also. Seems like the temporary fix was to update the BIOS to lower the temp. Love the 1330 but it doesn't have Bluetooth.

Can't you choose it the States? I have BT on my, bought in Europe...

And for the OP: Compare the specs with the price, there are several good deals around the net, you could find even better deals. Overall M1330 is a good machine, for me it was the best combination of size / features / price, so you just list the things you want from a lappy and search the market.

    ^^^^^M1330 has bluetooth

To the left of the power button is the bluetooth light.

The M1330 is great..a lot of people complain about overheating...but a lot of people don't have common sense. Just use it like it's supposed to be used. (ex don't use it lying flight on the bed! of course it's going to be hot if it can't breath)

It's great and it's cheap...like Kanehi said it's prob cheap because of the new one coming in november. (new XPS' and studios)

According to the BestBuy specs it doesn't have Bluetooth so I assume it doesn't. Went there the other day and they had lots in stock but none on display which was odd. Saw the new MacPro and that aluminum casing was sweet. Hope Dell copies it and use it on the new models.

Well, if anything, the xps 1330 has a very low return rate. I think the GPU problems are overblown, but Dell has been good about fixing or replacing your laptop if it happens to be the GPU.

And that is a killer keyboard to type on.

If this is the BB 1330 with Vista home 64, 4GB T7250 and 320GB HDD, then it probably does come with BT. I bought mine at BB after repeated shipping delays form Dell directly, and although there was no mention of BT on the box spec, it came with the 355 module. Either way, the 355 or 360 BT module is <$30 and a 5 minute fit to any model without it, so I wouldn't let this sway your decision....

If it does not come with bluetooth, you can purchase one from Dell, and install it by yourself, all you have to do is remove the Center control cover, and install it, it should be around 25 bucks.

Nice notebook but dont get anything with the Nvidia 8400 or 8600. They will eventually fail. They are all damaged chips. Sooner or later they will fail and your warranty will run out.

    Its a fact.

I bought mine this summer and have used and carried it around alot. It's been flawless on the hardware side. Vista got flakey at one point so I did a virgin reinstall without MediaDirect, which doesn't seem very useful to me. Mine has the integrated graphics, which doesn't seem to give anyone any troubles. Mine came with BT installed, by the way, and I'd recommend that if you think you'll have any use for it.

Please don't be a fear mongrel.....the OLD ones MOST likely came with a damaged chip that COULD fry...
    (old as in pre-this summer)

    New ones have fixed chips

You will hear of a lot of Nvidia chips frying (because they do)...but it's not a "i bought one and i'm 100% sure that it's frying, only a matter of time"..that's just silly

Well technically there has been nothing released officially from either Dell or Nvidia backing that claim up. As far as we know, laptops rolling out of the factory today could quite possibly have the flaw. From Dell's point of view it would make bad business sense to simply dispose of the stockpile of 8 series cards because of the flaw.

Instead they have merely blogged about how they're going to extend the warranty by one year (yet again, nothing official like an actual statement, seriously need to get their act together) So I would imagine they are using or have used up the stockpile of those cards, with the logic that those cards that do fail wil most likely fail outside the standard warranty period and so they won't be caught for the cost of them.
