Hi, I am interested in getting a laptop for school but I would like to game on it as well. I have seen the Dell xps m1530 and I have a few questions about it.

I saw that it has a 8600m GT but is it possible to get an 8800 in it? An 8600 might be enough for me but the 8800 would make things much nicer. I think the m1730 has an 8800 but I really don't want a 17 inch laptop.

I know this would be the wrong forum to ask but if I can't get the xps with the better card, are there any laptops from other companies that have 15 inch screens and 8800 or better cards?

Secondly, Is it possible to get it shipped with xp? or would I have to buy that separately/live with vista(or just install linux)

Also, is the upgrade to the 1440x900 lcd worth it?

Finally, is there any news of dell releasing new xps's soon? I just want to know if it's worth waiting for.

Thanks and I am in Canada in case that affects anything.

No you can't upgrade the graphics card in the m1530.
You might want to check out the hp dv5t. It has a 9600 graphics card + a newer processor for under $1000 if you use the 30% off coupon.
No, you can't get it shipped with xp.
Yes, it is worth the upgrade to 1440x900.
Not sure about a new xps.

The 1440x900 is DEFINITELY worth it. It's a great looking screen. No news on the update, if I were you, I'd go ahead and buy.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I took a quick look at the dv5t and it looks like it might be better for me so I will check it out more. Where can I find the 30% off coupon you mentioned? Thanks again.

Turns out the dv5t isn't customizable in canada so there goes that option. Back to the 1530 though, I forgot to ask how much the 9 cell battery would improve on battery life. I think it will make the laptop heavier so I only want to get it if it makes a large difference.

    thanks.
