    Hi all,

I have a Studio XPS1640 that is roughly two years old, still covered under the full extended warranty. About two months ago on the way to class, I noticed that my backpack was really hot. Somehow my laptop had woken up out of standby and almost fried itself. The screen was tinting yellow in places, etc.

So I called Dell and they sent out some replacement parts (screen, mobo, etc.). This is where the nightmare started. After these replacement parts, my system started behaving very oddly. The lights on the front of the machine were inaccurate (hdd light was solid, bluetooth light was solid, wifi light dim), and pressing the wifi toggle switched the hdd light off completely. Not a huge deal, but I want my laptop to work properly.

In addition to this, I noticed a "splotch" under my display, although only notable on brighter backgrounds it's still a nuisance. I had called Dell, and they made me run the display test (D+power on) and there was a vertical line almost all the way across the screen, near the splotch. I'm told this is failing the test - is this so?

Lastly, my Wifi has been acting up as well. Randomly out of nowhere I will completely lose connectivity. Normally, I would hit my Wifi toggle switch it would turn off the Wifi card and I would turn it back on. However, when this happens the Wifi toggle switch ceases to do anything and it's as if my Wifi card is disabled in the device manager. I can't replicate it but it happens randomly, so I assume there must be a short somewhere?

Long story short - Dell had promised a replacement screen, and Wifi card but they -never- showed. After complaining a while since I have had -so many- replacement parts on this machine (2-3 mobos, 2-3 screens, 2-3 touchpad palmrests, replacement battery, replacement media controls, etc...) they make me send it to depot.

I'm getting it back tomorrow and I read what their website says they did to it at the depot. Apparently, they only replaced the motherboard and for some reason, the side panel on the right that has all the connectors (Why?). Given that the splotch in my screen is quite obviously an issue with the screen, I feel I'm going to receive it and still have a screwed up screen.

Half the parts they have sent have been on "backorder" and have taken over a week to get here, leaving me without my machine working 100% for quite some time. It's really discouraging...

I feel kinda bad to keep calling and complaining about these issues, but I feel that I really should have a working system, and for example, a replacement screen without defects. Am I right to complain about these issues? And what do I do if I do indeed get the machine back, and it isn't fully fixed? This is getting ridiculous. :S
