    Does yours have a plastic kind of film on the hinges? Can I peel this off? Why is it there?

    It's there to prevent scratches, duh. And yes you can peel it off, it's like the plastic film on the screen when you get a replacement.

    Yes, you can peel it off, it's just a protective film for shipping AFAIK.
