The XPS M1210 is officially off the Dell production line. 'Tis a sad day for all.

Its a fantastic little machine, barring a tragic accident I predict mine will be serving me well for quite some time.

In response to your message, I ended up needing a replacement to get the vista upgrade, bunch of rigamaroo non hardware related, they gave me a few extra goodies as well, though I'd gladly trade them for my old screen, it was much much better, but not worth the hassle of playing the lottery again, thats been the only issue I've had, its fantastic reliable machine, I've had this one since around christmas without incident, I'd keep an eye out in the outlet for some deals, though I still have yet to find one that matches mine, including the $100 back they gave me after the vista trouble, I got mine for just under $900 shipped and 3 years CC, and I originally placed the order towards the end of last October.

I wished they made a SR version of it instead of the M1330, I liked the smaller footprint in tradeoff of the thickness.

Agreed, I'm not a big fan of super thin, super thin to me makes me think super fragile, which is bad for an expensive piece of equipment meant to be carried around frequently, the thinness also creates much poorer heat exchange, I really dig the hardware aspects of the 1330, the overall design not so much, its pretty, but a few too many tradeoffs for sheer aesthetics in my opinion.

yeah, i dont like the larger footprint of the m1330... i think they could have made at least an inch smaller even with a 13 inch screen.. i feel like its no longer a laptop that i can carry around with me so easily...

I dunno about 1210, but 1330 is not that much larger than 700m. In my books, 1330 is more portable than 700m. And being thin doesn't necessarily mean that it's more fragile, on the contrary, 1330 to me is very solid, I have no problems using it. Also being thin maybe better for heat dissipation - thinner=less material to trap heat inside, imho :)

Being air cooled, the extreme thinness hurts efficiency greatly, as there isnt much air to move around, and everything is crammed in as tight as it possibly can be, there is literally no room to speak of inside the chassis, which could lead to shorter lifespans over the long haul, heat has been the only real complaint I've heard against it, and even with the fan on constantly, Ive heard certain areas tend stay uncomfortably warm.

you can have tons of air inside, if it doesn't move around, it'll heat up and fry everything anyways. I don't see how 1330 being thinner than 1210 will change anything in terms of air movement, and volume of the air inside is really the last thing affecting cooling capacity. If anything, smaller spaces may mean faster air movement, plain physics. As for "certain areas" being warm, that affect every single computer out there, not just 1330.

I would say "haters" it's just some ppl prefer smaller notebooks. I really liked 700m but I'm tired of 12" screen, it's just don't cut it any more for me. Most ppl here obviously think otherwise. However, arguments about 1330 running hotter than 1210 only because it's thinner seem to too far-fetched to have any real basis apart from the plain dislike of this computer.

hey hey, don't be too quick to judge people. I never said i "hate" the 1330, as a matter of fact, i have much respect for it, being one of the first laptops to have backlight led and all. but it is afterall just a matter of preference. Just because every other person has a didn't opinion does not make them "haters".

Do you buy underwear used, too? It's a matter of preference, don't like 1330, fine, but there's no need to bash it like it's a piece of garbage.

Thats not completely true, thats why a desktop case is much easier to cool than a laptop, and airflow is restricted in the 1330 , hence extra heat buildup, and while its true hotspots are common on most laptops, they can usually be eliminated with user control of the fans, even with the fan on constant, my friends 1330 has a couple spots that stay "uncomfortably" warm as in HOLY SH-T thats HOT!! after its been chugging away for a few hours, I dont have that problem with my m1210.

The m1210 is a sweet laptop. I just got one and I have to say despite it's size I'm completely satisfied with it coming from an m1710. It was a definite improve from the 700m which I found the keyboard a pain in the ass to type with. I woulda gone with the m1330 though but it was just too expensive.

The xps m1210 is not removed from dell. It is under "medium & large business". I ordered one last week and it just arrived today. Which brings me to this great forum :D . I just hope the rest of the information I find here is more accurate.

I can get the M1210 in several different configurations in quite some shops here in Southamerica. So, the machine is still coming out from somewhere. Relating this with the resent incresing price in the M1330, I reflect this may be a manouver by Dell, looking to boost at the maximum its sales in this new model. After all, I don't think a notebook manufacturer will just "give up" the market section of the 12", at least almost all the other manufactures have a model with this size.

I have the m1210 for work and the m1330 for home. I do prefer the m1330 however due to the slightly larger screen, and overall design. Performance wise however, they're essentially the same.

Ha, I had a 700M and adored my keyboard. However, I'm a girl with really little hands :). In normal typing position at a desk, I can't reach my number keys without picking up my hands and moving them.

Despite having a LED backlight and a Geforce 8 series graphics card, I don’t think M1330 is a worthy upgrade for M1210 users. Don’t get me wrong, M1330 is one of the best (if not THE best) ultra portable notebook(s) out there right now.

But the marginal graphics upgrade (around 30% performance boost), heat issues, and negligible CPU/platform upgrade certainly doesn’t justify the huge price tag. I mean, if I were to upgrade mine to a M1330, I’d have to spend at least $800 ~ $1000, which is ridicules. Therefore I’ll stick with my M1210 for at least another year and upgrade when the next generation of ultraportables come out. Perhaps quad core and Geforce 9 series ...

BTW, Delluniversity site still advertises M1210 under > The Goods. Maybe they forgot to take it down ??

Sad that’s it been discontinued from the dell xps line-up, but I am glad that I bought it – “It’s my first laptop dell XPS M1210 “ and I am very happy with my purchase.
