I have the Seagate ST9320421ASG so downloaded the R206231 update from here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R206231&ref=sdc_dlsource

I burnt the .iso to a bootable dvd and booted the laptop up using this DVD. The software detected the ST9320421ASG and said

"attempting to load DE16". (or something like that)

But, it appeared to hang and nothing else happened.

Anyone had any luck with this update?

I have the EXACT SAME problem, the only difference is that I burn the ISO file to a CD.

I wish I can get this update working soon.. :(

i have successfully installed this update. Upgraded my 320GB 7200.3 from firmware version DE13 to DE16.

*Burn the ISO-file to a CD
    *Boot the CD
*The installation program starts, and reads something like: Reading ROM
*It will stay that way for ~20mins, looking like the system has frozen.
*After ~20mins a messge will say the installation program ended with code0
    *Reboot
    *Firmware upgrade complete :)

I dunno why the installation program was so poorly written as to give no information what so ever to the end-user. Reading ROM (a file of ~2MB, should be instantaneous... not take 20 mins... Instead it should say "Applying ROM" or something, "please wait and do NOT turn off power". And instead of "ended with Code0" it should say "upgrade successfull, please reboot"

Anyway, I cheked my drive in the hardware management in Vista, and the firmware has been upgraded, and the drive is MUCH more quiet in operation. It now sounds more like my old 5400 WD drive than a 7200 rpm one. I don't know if this upgrade has affected performance in any way, as I haven't benchmarked the drive after upgrade of firmware.

Yeah - that does the trick. You just have to wait 20 minutes or so. Patience... :)

I can't get my system to boot from the CD.

I use Roxio to burn as a CD image but when I try to reboot, it says it's not a bootable CD. Can anyone post me to a link with the file? The Cd image is only 1Mb so not sure if I have the right file.

ImgBurn is a very good free software for burning image-files to CD/DVD. It supports bootable image-files too.

Re: R206231, the file is very small in size.

If you used Roxio, I am not sure how you could have missed the button that says "Make Bootable" -- it's right on the screen where you burn the data disc.
