    Hey,

I just got a Dell XPS 15 and since the upgrade to 8GB costs 180€ I told the guy to put 1x4GB instead of 2x2GB and now I need to buy another 4GB. I have never upgraded RAM, but from my research I need 4GB DDR3 SODIMM 1333MHz.

Is there anything else I need to know to avoid incompatibility?
Is there any particular brand that is recommended?
Does it make any difference if the RAM I buy is not from the same brand Dell put in the laptop?

    Thanks a lot!

You CAN install 2 different ram modules, and it SHOULD work, but it is usually recommended that the ram modules match due to many different specs they offer. I would suggest buying a 2x4GB kit from newegg.com or whereever you buy your parts. A new 2x4GB kit should run you around $60-$80 USD, and all will come with a lifetime warranty. Here's what I have and has worked perfectly since I installed them:
