I just picked up a Studio XPS 1640 the other day. It currently has the 1366*768 screen. I found a local shop that has a complete RGB LED upper half NIB. Can you guys tell me if it's a drop in part or not? The RGB assembly has the ribbon cable and seems to be 100% complete including the outer shell and hinges. I can do the swap, just wasn't sure if the pins on the connector will match up or if there are specific motherboard revisions related to the different screens.

    This might help. Documentation

Why not check with Dell Sales itself?

I did this same conversion myself and it was straight forward to do, take the old one off and attach the new one, all the connections etc were the same, its well worth doing. :D

How badly did your framerates drop in games, if you don't mind my asking? I'm going to pick up the new assembly Monday regardless, 1080p is worth the cheap price he's asking for it.

Update: Display assembly came in. It was factory new. Spent a good hour swapping it out. Man, I am so glad I did this. Not even optimized, it's the most gorgeous screen I've ever seen on a laptop, bar none.
