Alright I vaguely remember someone talking about this before on here, but I thought it was just some weird issue on his end. But today I experienced the same thing. And I have NO IDEA what the heck is going on.
I have a 1080p RGB LED on my SXPS 16 and I've always had flicker issues at low brightness. When I go up and down on brightness it takes a second for all the hues to match, so the color distorts slightly, nothing new.
But today I was on the bus on my way to campus and I pulled out my laptop to review some notes. I was sitting with my back to the window and direct sunlight was hitting the back of my head and the screen. After about 5 seconds, the screen hue turned vivid red, then yellow for a few seconds, and returned to red and stayed there. The screen became impossible to read, so I closed the lid and opened it, hoping that would solve the problem. Same issue - after about 5 seconds, the screen started switching hues and the backlight became so dim I couldn't even tell if the monitor was on. tried covering the webcam and every possible hole on the laptop to no avail. Then I moved my hand over the right side of the screen and it stopped. I removed my hand, and it started going crazy again. Nothing I did fixed it, I tried increasing and decreasing brightness but the screen stayed red, then switched to yellow when we made a right turn (sun no longer directly behind me).
Er... what's going on? Is there some sort of ambient sensor that's messing with the color temperatures? I'll try to take a video of it next time I'm on the bus. But I thought someone could shed some light on this situation. (pun intended)![]()
But yea. Im confused. I thought if I tried to explain it to someone they would think I'm crazy. But I assure you that I'm not.
Thanks!

That sounds like a serious problem, anyone else had that experience?

Bump, anyone?

I once had a similar problem when my screen became very yellowish.
Solution was to take out the battery and pushing the power button for some seconds. After turning on again everything went normal... -

Reproduced the issue again today by sitting outside with my back to the sun. I took out the battery, pressed power, and turned the computer back on. Same thing happens again until I get out of the sun.
Seriously, what the heck? -
So strange, i ve read your issue a few days ago. And today happened the same thing to me. Direct sunlight and goin pure red, green... then brightness went down so high, like %1. I could barely see icons. After goin inside the issue was gone.
But it s not usable in sunlight so strange. dont get it -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Did you update your display driver? I remember one of the Precisions were having this problem.

Hi, same thing happened to me several times...I just didn't care because this screen is impossible to read on direct sunlight anyway so I just resigned on using my laptop outside in sunny days...
EDIT: My first impression was that it's caused by the Edge-to-Edge plastic reflecting both the direct sunlight and also the sunlight reflected by the screen behind it and so on, but may be it's some more serious issue... -
I really doubt the sun would do anything to the LCD panel its self.

It's RGB edge lighting, it gets distorted in bright light. Nothing is wrong with your system. If you switch to a less bright area, teh colors will again seem normal.

Had the same issue again today... pretty frustrating when light messes up the screen.
And to 5150Joker and funky monk, this is not an issue with how the screen is difficult to see in sunlight... The computer is actually adjusting brightness/color intensity when it hits a sensor somewhere. It's just like when you hold Fn + Down to make the screen darker, except it goes below the minimum, and randomly one of the LED colors will shut off.
I called Dell and they don't know what I'm talking about. All my drivers are up to date.
Is there a sensor behind the screen? I'm not too familiar with RGBLED screens, but I know most TVs have ambient light sensors and adjust color temperatures accordingly -
Disable the auto dimmer in the bios
RGB LED Screen goes PSYCHO in Sunlight
