First I'd like to say hello to everyone as this is my first post on a forum, ever - so hello!![]()
Last week I received my xps 1640 as a replacement for my dead m1530 and ever since have been going through forums and trying to find out how to get rid of the over-saturated red. I've spent HOURS installing all kinds of drivers, trying custom icc files posted here, etc...!
10 minutes ago I finally found where the hue and saturation setting are in the ATI ccc which nobody has been able to discover, including Dell who had already agreed to replace my screen because of the reds... gotta call them tomorrow to cancel. Am so happy with my screen now!
Anyway, I installed the latest ATI drivers from the AMD website and used the mobility modder to mod them so that they can be used correctly with the laptop vga card (although I'm sure that this option is in every version).
1) In the ccc switch to "Advanced" mode
2) At the top left where there's a menu titled "Graphics" with a small arrow next to it, choose "Desktops & Displays"
3) On the bottom left there should be a small picture of a laptop with the number "1" next to it. Right click on the picture of the laptop and choose "Configure"
4) It should now open a new screen. Just go to the middle tab "Avivo Color" and play around with the Hue and Saturation.
Here are my current settings:
Avivo Color:
Hue: -4
Saturation: 83
Desktop Properties (Also under the top left menu):
Set color correction for: All Channels
Gamma: 1.00
Brightness: -50
Contrast: 90
I hope this helps a lot of people!!!
Please post here any customs setting which you may find look better...

Just some extra info:
You can download the latest ATI drivers from here (they increased my Windows index for graphics and gaming from 6.1 to 6.7!!)
You can download the ATI modder that makes them 100% compatible with the Mobility Radeon series from here (very very very simple to do - easy step by step instructions at the link too) -
Urm nobody has been able to discover?
I don't think that's quite true bud, but thanks for your post anyway -
Initial impressions are that it now looks a bit 'flat', but you settings have certainly reduced the glare from the Reds, will use it for a while and see how I get on in the long term, thanks very much for your post.

I personally think the reds are growing on me. They look fine in most programs (especially gaming)... I'm definitely going to try this when I get on my lappy though.

Hi everyone.
I have my laptop for a couple weeks now and i was just watching Batman Returns trailer in HD 1080p (youtube) on my rgbled screen and 2 minutes in to the trailer, the screen all of a sudden went all pink/purple and i had to put it to sleep for it to get back to normal.
Any ideas why it done that? -

You pay Mucho $ for this premium system so it should be flawless... -
-
Think this would help if your screen is overly "Blue"
-
thanks for the tips for Avivo Color. But I don't have hand to change the Desktop Properties values...

Famx, please stop cross-posting!

Thank you, thank you...
you are absolutely right, dell had no clue how to desaturate the screen on the many occasions that I called about that and another problem I was having. I had problems with my 1st laptop... unrelated to the oversaturation problem, and even had a techie come here to try and fix that problem.. while here I asked him about the oversaturation and he thought it was a faulty computer. which it was since it kept shutting off by itself every day. Rec'd a new replacement laptop, and have been trying desperately to find a solution. I'm a photographer and even calibrating the monitor did nothing.
I have used some of your settings.. but am still futzing with the hue and saturation. Now i will recalibrate and see how it goes.
I can't tell you the amount of googling I have done to find a solution. and posting on Dell and microsoft. I am going to blog about this asap.
Thanks so much! I think I will write to Dell about it as well. Their tech people should know how to advise. -
They have replaced my new laptop 3 times for this problem. no one there has a clue!! Their standard calibration system does nothing to the blown out fluro colours. Makes it impossible to manage all my photos. Looking forward to trying these suggestions.
