For those who may have USB 3.0 disconnect issues on their XPS 17...
Ok got off the chat session with Dell Tech support this morning and watched as they remotely installed and updated drivers and ran PC Checkup utility to determine that my motherboard needs to be replaced.
The tech asked me to plug in thumb drive into back usb 3.0 ports and transfer files, at which point it failed.
Then he ran the PC Checkup program as installed in the default programs.
The PC Checkup utility failed upon test of the PCI Express portion.
So now I get to become one of the lucky guys to get their motherboard replaced only a few days after recieving their laptop.![]()
My last XPS did not have a USB 3.0 problem so I feel kinda disgusted. I just hope the tech does a good job and doesnt screw anything else up.![]()
I would actually entertain the idea of totally returning this laptop for a newer one but who is to say I wont get another laptop with the same problem?

Having same troubles with mine with USB 3.0 cutting out. They sent a new unit and still same troubles. Ouch! In addition, I have the cheaper screen which sucks. I going to look to upgrade to FHD anti glare.
Please someone keep me posted if they find a solution.
