I can't help it. I want a redesigned XPS 13 so that we can have an affordable option to the Sony Z or the many compromises and long wait for the Acer 3820TG. There seems to be an incredible pent-up demand for a decent, light 13.3" notebook. The Vostro GPU is too anemic. The Inspiron 13R is closer, but the 5450 is still too weak and the device is butt ugly. I would like to see an ultralight XPS 13 with I5/I7, switchable graphics, HD5650 GPU minimum (5670 would be better) and 1600 x 900 display, brushed aluminum case and under 4 lbs (and don't make it look like the freakin ugly Mini 10). Forget the optical drive. Put an extra fan in it or make it thinner. If you make it ... they will come.
OK rant over.![]()

I read on engadget hp and lenovo updating 13 inch notebooks to core I in june. But yes I'm having a tough time finding a replacement for my xps m1330.

I agree on all counts! I would stay in the Dell fold if this came true. They better hurry, because I hear the Acer 3820TG calling my name!
-
My current Dell is on her last legs. I need a 13", i5-540, switchable 5650, 16x9, backlit keyboard... and soon. I don't care if the case is plastic, just build the damned thing.
Conveniently, cost is no object for this... and as a result, I looked at the Vaio Z, and thought the build was cheap (insert Z owner flamethrower here). Sorry, but for 2+ grand, it seemed like a bunch or really nice pimped out parts in a flimsy case. Oh, I also pitched a fit when the Jobs man "refreshed" the 13" MBP with a Core2Duo... nice job there Steve, you lost a customer.
So Dell, get off your As$es and refresh the damned 13" XPS, or I'll have to get an Asus or Acer... which aren't my first choices.
Okay, end of rant... but I also agree with Bronsky on all counts. -
Interestingly, you can still get the xps 13 on the dell new zealand and i think australian sites and probably others.. i think they must be offloading all the old stock into the austalasian market before bringing in the new line, we always seem to be behind the times in terms of available technology in this part of the world

<--- Repeatedly bangs head on desk... looks up... still sees no XPS 13 refresh... hears no news of an XPS 13 refresh... lowers head and returns to repeatedly banging on desk.

nothing new but not a bad deal....

I totally agree with Bronsky still have my M1330 but felt it was time for a new laptop. Really wanted to get another Dell XPS 13" but due to outdated P series processor, design flaws etc. I opted to get a 14" Sony CW instead.
If Dell came out with a new redesigned and flawless XPS 13" I would sell my CW and buy it.
Oh Dell I definitely still need an optical drive on the new XPS 13" thanks. -
Oh for the love of God, Dell, would you hurry the F#@( up!
I'm even starting to look at the 13" MBP... don't let this happen to me! -
yea, rit?!
why do ppl still post this kinda dumb question? why dont car makers sell 2000lb sport car that can drive 120mph on highway.
any 13" laptop with a beefy cpu and dedicated video would require some decent form of cooling-like a 0.5lb fan. -
-
13" Mbp...........
-
think their gonna come out with a new one?
-
I bought my XPS M1330 in 2007. I just looked into getting a replacement, and just like all of you, I don't see one. How could this be 3 years later? What, has Moore's Law been repealed?
I thought about the MacBook Pro 13, but web reviews of Windows running on it aren't super inspiring. Battery life falls from 10 hours to 4 (or much less), the keyboard shortcuts to get common keys like home, page up/down are annoying, and Aero appears to be screwed up. -

I think I may have found the replacement I was looking for, the Core i5 13", 3.2lb Toshiba Portege R700:

Engadget gave its cheaper cousin, the R705, a glowing review.

Seriously Dell, you're already halfway there. The Alienware M11x is close, but not quite. Just rip out the ULV Arrandale, drop in a real Core i7-620M, and put it in an XPS 13 chassis with a 1600x900 13.3" RGBLED...
(seriously please do this)
Re-occuring, periodic rant about the lack of an XPS 13 on the market ...
