ok, i`m at the end of my tether with Dell. I think i`ve spent 4 hours on the phone to them over the past 3 weeks sorting out issues ie bad keyboard fit, 3d not working and blank screens. Today I managed to get them to arrange another next day engineer to fix my blank screens only to be contacted later to say the part is out of stock and 3 working days before restock.
My problem is im going on a year long trip on the 4th may, there are 4 public holidays leaving about 3 days to have this fixed before i leave.
So what to do? i`ve waited since November last year for an upgrade to a sandy bridge laptop. All along I was waiting for a Sony F series but then I saw the Dell L702x available I decided to go for that, big mistake! The machine does what I want it to do when it works, but its too much of a liabilty. So shall I hold out for a repair, seek a replacement laptop which could take time or just get my money back and go for something else more realiable. The sony is £200 more and I`ll get a worse graphics card. I`m not bothered about 3d. Just cpu speed, memory and graphics. Ive owned Sony and Acer before and both were realiable from the day I bought them, I just cant feel the same about this laptop.
What would you do? Thanks

Can you explain the blank screens? What seems to be the cause? What configuration do you have?
It doesn't give you much time to get it fixed. I'm getting a replacement without 3D as I was having issues with the 3D screen like display will turn off and computer freeze after waking the computer from sleep. -
The problem is the screen will just go blank randomly, I've had it during games and during web browsing ie non intensive tasks. It doesn't reset but I loose all keyboard functions ie caps lock , fn keys. So I have to keep the power button pressed for a few seconds to reboot.
.
I'm also getting it the last few days rapid beeping when pressing power on. It's only done it a couple of times so nor sure of the number of beeps but it seemed constant. Tried all nvidia drivers and on latest bios.
I'm getting to a point where I'm looking at other laptops. Namely the msi gt680r which is smaller unfortunately but better graphics card and same price as the xps 17.
Thanks for your help. -
and I am still waiting for 3D glass to test 3D vision, what a laptop! -
Edit: I've seen this thread that has been started regarding this problem;

Thanks -
btw that other thread was mine too -
Well, I will get my usb 3.0 ports empty and check whether i can wake up from hibernate and no blank screen.

I'm having the same problem with my Dell Studio 1558. Reinstalling Windows fixed it.
Aside from that, they replaced almost every partI will never pick a Dell again.
-
Have decided to wait for an engineer to visit next week. If that doesnt fix it i`m going to try reinstalling windows and then if that doesnt fix it go for an MSI which I can get next day delivery.
But I have a feeling its hardware given the occassional beeps I get when turning on the system, although its been ok for the last 3 days. -
My sis' fujitsu once has rapid beeping problem, and it turned out to be a motherboard problem... Her problem is more serious and the motherboard needs to be replaced, dunno about how bad yours is...
Off-topic a bit but Fujitsu has real great customer services, instead of babbling about stupid reasons, they just go straight to the point and fix it for you, quickly.
Last time I called Dell for a faulty fan (constant clicking sound), they hold me on phone for three good hours telling me to do unrelated stuff trying to avoid sending engineer... and those indian people are so hard to talk to. sigh -
I did ask the Dell engineer to replace the optical drive and check on the screen. What he did was to reinstall all the drivers and fingers crossed, it is working well now including the blank screen. It only happened to me when I am using Microsoft Powerpoint and trying to press F5. It will go blank sometimes. Right now it is fine though...

ok thanks.
Typically mine has been fine for the last 4 days, although i`ve only used it for about a total of 6 hours. i`ve left it running pretty much all the time though to see if there were any problems but nothing. -

The first day I got my Dell the black screen thing happened too, but it hasn't happened in the week since after installing and updating drivers and BIOS.
-
I wonder if its just a driver problem somewhere. Have tried all the nvidia drivers previously, so dont think its those. -

Anyone know how to list all your driver versions without going through one by one in the driver manager.
Thanks
