    Hello everyone,

I've been reading many threads in this forum for the last few weeks now.
Currently I'm a Vaio user and the whole Vaio experience since late of 2007 was great. But it's 2011 now which means time for a new toy.

I'm currently using a vaio with 13 inch display and even for personal use, it's just too small for me. So I've been checking out a few 17 inch notebooks. ThinkPad W701ds, Sony Vaio EC, Dell XPS 17 and Alienware M17x.

In the end, it all came down to practicality.

I don't game at all so didn't make sense to pay a lot of money to buy a pure gaming latop(Alienware M17x), ThinkPad W701ds was kind of expensive and overkill for what I would do on it and Sony Vaio EC's still stuck in last generation(no Sandy Bridge, yet) so "Dude I'm getting a Dell!"(We were in the same class at NYU when he got busted for buying weed and never saw him again).

2nd gen i7-2630QM(enough to future proof?)
4GB Memory(already ordered 8GB(4GB x 2) from newegg and will order another if my XPS does come with 4 Dimms but I doubt it)
1.0TB 500GB 7.2k HDD x 2(is it possible to raid these two HDD?)
    non 3D 1080p
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 and Bluetooth 3.0
    Backlit Keyboard
    Recovery DVD for Windows 7
1 Year Limited Hardware Warranty (Shipping not included. 14x7 phone support)

With coupons it comes out to $1,035

I read that Recovery DVD I'm buying from dell comes in two dvds. Disc one is OS image and Disc two has drivers and other junks. Is it possible to just use disc one and get drivers from dell support website so I dont have junks on my new XPS?

Thanks everyone and have a nice day!

Your machine will come with all the "junk" already pre installed, you will need to do a clean install of the OS to get rid of it, then install the drivers you want from the Dell website.

If you order the OS disc you will automatically get the Drivers disc also, just don't use disc #2.

One DVD will be the raw OS with no bloatware. The second CDROM is just drivers and aplications (i.e. bloatware). Going to the Dell website is the best way to get the most current drivers, utilities, and BIOS images. Use the OS DVD and just disregard the second.

    Scott-
    Yes..... waiting.... s u c k s....

    Grat's on your order! : )

FYI...Estimated Ship Dates (EDD), are normally over-estimated. It helps to protect Dell against any delays, production problems, backorders..etc : )
So, your lappy could very well ship before that date! ;)

I would personally use the system first before doing anything drastic. The 2 Dell's I have purchased (Latitude 13/Latitude E6410) had the basics, though I have not purchased a consumer grade Dell in a long time, Dell has some of the least bloatware compared to HP/Acer.
