    Really NOOB Question about the GPU in the L502x

    Can the GPU, 540m, be swapped out or is that sucker glued down?

    It's soldered in, you can't upgrade it.

    But you can overclock it :D

    You're stuck with it unfortunately. Even when laptops did have MXM type video cards there was not a huge amount of flexibility as you would have in a desktop.

    As the others have stated, the GT540M is soldered onto the motherboard, no upgrading in terms of like a removable module. And the 540M is the highest end GPU offered for the XPS 15. If you had the 525M, you can swap the motherboard for the 540M.

    If you are really disappointed with the gaming performance of the XPS 15, you can sell it and get the ASUS G53 gaming series. It stomps the XPS 15 in terms of gaming performance.

    Or a Sager NP8130 that's not nearly as heavy, offers more customization options including a 95% gamut display just like the XPS 15's B+RGLED display.
