Hey guys received a replacement motherboard for my dell xps l502x. I installed it and everything. When i boot it up there is nothing on the screen and the fan just stays on.

What could i have done wrong.

Also when the motherboard died yesterday is it possible that it killed the screen?

maybe the display isn't hooked up properly? Do you get any video when connected to an external monitor?

Not sure what BIOS has to do with an external display?

From your description, it sounds like the laptop may be booting normally but your display may not be functioning (whether defective or just not connected). If you have an external display, connect it and use the Fn+F1 key combo to enable it. You don't need to do anything in BIOS.

The screen is a UPnP device and will be detected by the bios. You shouldn't need to do anything special to get it to work. Sounds like the motherboard isn't the only thing bad. I'd call dell.

You never know. Could be here in a week. If you have anything saved on that hdd, I'd take it out and clone it or copy all the files you need before returning it.

Depending whats offered in your warranty, ie dell rapid depot, is usually either 2-15 days.
    Onsite is generally a day.

Used it once, and satisfied :)
