Well guys i'm new here, but I received my XPS M1530 from the Nvidia Litigation.
I'm glad I got it back, but I noticed my fan sounded different, so i opened up the laptop and saw that I have the XR216 Heatsink which as copper for the pipes and Aluminum for the heatpads covering the CPU, GPU and Northbridge.

I remember before I had a all Copper Heatsink but I wiped off the blue goopy heat paste and put OCZ Freeze and it dropped my tempatures for gaming, The fan wouldn't costantly roar up. However the GPU burned out after one day I closed the laptop while it was and went out for a bit then when I came back it wasn't working due to the GPU.

But issue is, the fan runs somewhat often and I believe it could possibly have that goopy blue stuff, Although i haven't remove the heatsink yet. The laptop doesn't feel excessively warm but during gaming the fan will crank up pretty high, and I bought some Cooler Master High Performance heat paste and i'm about to put it but I heard the Copper heatsink is better, so the Question is should I get a All copper heatsink or just work with what I got.

    My current temps are:
    GPU: 54C (Speedfan shows a flame :/)
    Core 1: 44C
    Core 2: 44C
    HD: 38C
    Temp1: 47C

I can't help with your question, but am curious what Nvidia Litigation is, and why did you have to use it?

Nvidia Litigation was a Class-action Court casr taken againist Nvidia for manufacturing faulty GPU's in HP, Dell, and Apple laptops equipped with Geforce 8 series GPUs.

I did it because they repair your laptop for free, and i was out of warranty, so it was worth it for the most part altough the process took a year.

Aahhhh....okay. My daughter had an HP notebook with the same Nvidia chip, but her serial number wasn't included for whatever reason. Before the gpu died, the notebook would get so hot she couldn't use it on her lap. She ended up paying HP to replace the motherboard, and that process was a tech support nightmare. I'll never say never, but for now I will no longer purchase HP products after dealing with that mess.

If the HP had any 8 series GPU installed, that must have been the problem. Newer HP's as well as other laptops use the ATi intergrated graphics. I'm sure it does better than the previous GPU's used in laptops.

Your idle temps seem to be fine, but this much information is not enough.

You may do a stress test by running Prime95 or furmark and post the max temps you noticed over here.

Ok my idling temp was around 54-55C then during the benchmark, the temp went up to 65C.

65C is pretty good in my opinion. in my old m1530, my cpu/gpu would be in 70-80C after a motherboard / heatsink replacement.

Sorry for the hijack but at least you got yours in time!
My M1530 failed today and now I'm stuck with no alternative but harassing Dell with the Sale of Goods Act that a product should not be sold as defective and I am entitled to a refund or replacement under law. Somehow I doubt I'll end up getting anywhere with it though. I'm already owed 2 laptop refunds from Dell from the last 3 months.

Dang sucks for you man, M1530s fail outta nowhere, which really sucks. By the way, why did you refund your XPS L502?

One more question guys, do you guys think i should put the heatpaste anyways or just leave it alone for now?

Yeah it's a real pain as I'm waiting stuff waiting for my new build for another couple of weeks. Refunded my L502 as I wasn't happy with it to be honest. Overheated, random shut downs and I didn't want another replacement.
Figured I could get a much more powerful desktop I could play with and tweak (as there is no room for that on the L502) for the money and run a VNC server/client between my desktop and laptop for portability in the house.

I think heat has been a common issue with XPS if you ask me, I also have M140, and it's still running fine after all these years but it runs kinda hot sometimes, it used to be kinda hot for my lap sometimes.

My next is not gonna be a Dell XPS for sure, actually a Computer Guy i know recommends Inspirons and other Dell Laptops instead, if still want to go Dell.
But i'm probably gonna get a Sony, Toshiba or HP.
