P/S: I just noted that I could change my keyboard backlit timer and brightness too. Not sure whether it's from these recent updates![]()
Edit: It is from A11 according to MrSpock2002 !
Edit: For those who want to know how to change the keyboard backlit timer, Right Click at your Power Status on taskbar then go to Windows Mobility Center and you should see it there !

Yeah the keyboard stuff is with the BIOS update. BTW you beat me to this, I just had a nice post all ready to submit and BOOM I see this just before hitting the submit button lol.

Haha, sorry dude
Oh really ? Wow, this feature is so cool. I always wanted to reduce the keyboard backlit timer
Thanks Cin for the download link !

They need to come out with new firmware to address the hard-drive clap-click sounds. ><
-
did you find out if tha clap-click sound of HDD means something bad for the drive, or it's just it's internal operations within normal state of working?
-
No problem!
I wish my 1530s KB was able to do the above

I updated these this morning. The ATI drivers boosted my Windoes Exp Index by .1 from 6.3 to 6.4 hehe and added 100points to my 3Dmark06 score to like 4430 or something
-
Are the new graphics drivers better than the official modded ATI ones?
-
some reason my WoW won't open as it says 3D accel not enabled or some ... so I uninstalled the ATI driver and will be just reinstalling what I previously was using and hoping that fixes my issue. I don't know if it's tied in but my flash in firefox freezes it up now too.. buncha weirdness since the updates..
-
My interent is being crap too since I updated, might just be a coincidence but it was pretty bad. I had to keep turning my wireless card off and on again to fix it
-
The newer firmware is preinstalled in my sxps 1640. It fixed the sound (or maybe there was no problem with my hdd).
What did you update ? I did all the updates, no problem with my internet? -
I did the chipset driver, the touchpad, the sound and the infrared port. Uppdated all of those
-
That's what I did as well. Internet working fine !
-
No idea. One of my friends purchased his XPS16 in August, did those hdd fixes they described in the forum, and reported that the sounds were still happening to him.
-
really? so did you ever have the clicking problem or was it always good from the day you received your xps? Thanks.
is there a way to check the firmware version? -
I applied A11 BIOS and the Dell Mobility Center only shows a Keyboard brightness slider. Nothing about the Keyboard Backlight Timer.
What am I missing if you all say BIOS A11 is what makes that appear? -
You have to click on the little keyboard icon where it says "keyboard brightness".
-
Just google SeaTools for Windows and check with it. Mine's 3SDM1 .. Those reported problems were 2SDM1. Not very sure though.
It's Windows Mobility Center. Anyway, just click on the picture of the keyboard at the mobility center. -
my synaptics driver is a newer version than dell's..all my 2 and 3 fingers gestures work fine...not touching it..err the drivers!!
-
what version did you have?? i use te synaptics 14.0.0.1... everithing work great!!!
-
Thanks. It works!
-
I have the A10 and I'm able to do the backlit key timing too.
-
check your firmware with Sisoft Sandra or any equivalent utility. perhaps even Seagate's tool does this.
the problem is that i've got the latest firmware DE17, and i still have the issue with ticking sound. what's even worse is that when hdd does this sound, the whole system halts for these few seconds as if hdd was freezed...i'm afraid my hdd will crash soon with these sounds... -
Thanks. Mine is 2SDM1, indeed. Is there a way to download the newer firmware? Is it on seagate site?
Edit:
I downloaded their programs and typed in my serial #. looks like they don't have 3SDM1 firmware available for download.
-
I guess you would have to wait or maybe call Dell for inquiry ? Maybe right now you could try the hdparm method.
-
Where are you finding that Broadcom driver? The newest one for me says 1/9/2009.
-
It's in the driver page ? Maybe you could go directly to Broadcom site. I found newer driver there. Same goes to Intel 5100 driver.
-
Hm, still not seeing it in the driver page. I still get the old release from January of this year. If I switch it to XPS 1645, I see the new one, however it does not work on my system. Gives me an error saying "This driver package is for a different processor than the one this machine has installed" or something to that effect.
-
That's weird. Did you change to 64 bit ? Try this the latest from Intel site.
