I've read the many previous posts regarding the fact that Dell disabled the stereo mix regarding RIAA issues...

I only need the Stereo Mix for my Magix Movie Edit Pro 14 "Screen Capture" feature because I can capture screens from youtube directly, but my audio is sourced from my speakers and inputted thorugh my mic (causing bad audio quality for good visual captures).

As I've researched around, I came down to two options:

    OPTION 1:
I saw on some other site that there is an official Dell driver that already enables the stereo mix for Dell notebooks...

    http://support.us.dell.com/support/...eid=R181712&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=247743

Has anyone downloaded this driver? I would like to know if it is stable enough. If it is, I'd probably download it.

    OPTION 2:
But another option I was thinking of (but haven't tried) was to use a male-male audio line connecting one of the two headphone ports to the Mic Line-In Port on the front of my XPS M1530...

Would my second option work as well? Or would it cause any electrical surge or short or something between my audio ports?

    Thanks for any suggestions...

Can someone please help me out??? I really need a suggestion because I am editing a video on a deadline in a few days...

I just would like to know if that driver is compatible for any Dell notebook, and if anyone has tried it, if it has worked succesfully, or has some drawback which would affect other components of the system (like the XPS M1330 fix, which put in the Stereo Mix, but disabled one of the two headphone ports...).

Same goes for the second idea I have of connecting a male-male audio line connecting the headphone to the Mic Line-In...

Please help...I really would appreciate any suggestions...

The male-male should work just fine. At least worked for me in Sony Sound Forge.
    Cheers!

    That's good to hear... Thanks.

But have you tried the driver by any chance?

The "Fixes and Enhancements" portion looks pretty promising, as it includes "New Installer + Stereo Mix + Microphone."

But then again, it only lists compatibility w/ the XPS 1730 and no compatible OS system under Vista.

    Thanks anyways...

I haven´t tried because i no longer have the 1530, but the 1330. (wich in this case is almost the same)
The only way to know is to try it. You have always the system restore if anything goes wrong.

yup..... male to male is tried and true already. especially when you install a tv tuner on your PC desktop, you have to route the sound for the tv tuner to the line-in of your audio card so that the sounds from the tv tuner will be directed to your speakers. same principle here. But why don't you try the driver afterwards. after all, it came from dell.

or you could use acronis true image home where there is a utility that it can put your system in a state where it can recover when you haven't installed the driver yet.

    Ok guys...

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I'll probably go with the male-male stereo connection. I did a little more research on the driver and by the looks of it, not all 1730 drivers work flawlessly on the 1530, so I might just pass that option.

    Thanks anyways...
