I'd like to know how to record sound from the 1530 without using the microphone. On my previous computer, I was able to do this (under XP however) by selecting the recording sound option and disabling the microphone and accept all outgoing sounds played on the computer (ie. wav/mp3/movies etc).

Just wondering how to do this in Vista.

OK after poking around, my computer states that it has a High Definition Audio Device for a sound card manufactured by Microsoft. I don't see anything about Sigmatel or other brands.

What can I do about this device?

These are the hardware IDs :

    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028022E&REV_1002
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7616&SUBSYS_1028022E

In my recording tab, I only see 2 icons and they are both Microphone (one of them states "Currently unavailable"). I've tried show disabled devices and nothing else appears.

    Am I SOL on this?

It is the M1530, but I don't see the Sigmatel HD codec anywhere.

I've tried the links to download the driver for XP (including running it in XP SP2 compatible), it does not want to install. In safe mode, it tells me that its the wrong driver.

The hardware IDs are the only leads I have and according to the internet they are Sigmatel.

    OK I got it working.

For some reason, another dialog window popped up from the taskbar (where the volume control and time is) when I tried to install the sigmatel driver. It runs externally from the sigmatel setup program which continued when this dialog finished.

This was after I uninstalled the sound drivers and reinstall using the DVD that Dell supplied.

So now I've got Digital Mic, Microphone, Line In and Stereo Mix listed under the Recording tab. Happy ending? This should really be done simpler!
