I have a xps 15 l502x and just a few days ago i called dell to complain about some touchpad and graphic card issues that i faced even with a clean format using the dell recovery partition. the guy told me that maybe my recovery partition in the hdd is corrupted and i should try reformatting with the cds that i created. i tried that and it was the wrong thing to do as my cds themselves were no good as they never went past 50%. i then used a windows 7 home premium cd that i have and installed that os in my hdd. can i just know how can i possibly get to reformat my hdd to its factory state as i still have the recovery partition intact.

    thanks in advance

You didn't need to do a clean install if it is the dell recovery partition you wanted. Maybe you just needed to update your drivers, because the dell partition contains old drivers.

i agree but like i said, the cd that i burned were probably corrupted and according to the guy at dell, so was the hard disk partition. after i used the cds, my computer could not boot up and it said operation system not found. there was no way to reformat using the image from my hard drive from there that is why i used my home premium cd. so is there a way now for me to use the factory image now that i've got the home premium installed?

Go to my computer and see if there is a recovery drive. There should be a Dell folder, and an Image subfolder that has the stock image file.

I want to return to factory settings after i did a clean format but in the recovery partition (i had to assign a drive letter to make the partition visible) I can't see any files in it but there is 8GB used in this drive.

Might need to "show hidden files". Why did you do a clean format before formatting to dell image? The dell image is a reformat in itself, which formats to the system the day you got it. Theres no need to reformat with disks if you have the dell image file.

Try this Solutions: How to restore dell factory image when PC restore does not work?

Once you reach the System Recovery Options, do any of the options allow access to the recovery image partition? If so, verify if the specified files are there and the path locations are the same as listed in the above link. If not, modify the instructions accordingly, then see if they will execute.
