I thought I had lost my remote, but then realized that it was in the express card slot of my M1530. Unfortunately when I tried to get it out (by pressing in on it), it wouldn't budge. With the creative use of a business card, I was able to get it out.

It appears that there is something wrong with the slot (spring, stuck mechanism, who knows?)

Here's the best part... For Dell to replace the spring, they have to replace the WHOLE MOTHERBOARD! (or so the tech service guy claims...)

I really don't have too many concerns, as the laptop is almost a year old and still has 3 more years of warranty service left on it. I'm just curious if the GPU is replaced with the motherboard, and if so, will I possibly get a non-suicidal 8600M GT?

GPU very probably won't be replaced as well, seeing how it can easily be removed.

That's what I figured... So they're going to rip apart my entire laptop because a single spring has failed... Sounds like a plan.

Perhaps when they crack it open they'll see that it's just stuck and they won't have to replace the motherboard (although it'd be nice if they replaced some of the plastic pieces the last Dell repair guy cracked while taking apart the computer...)

You sure about that? The CPU comes out, but it looks for sure like the GPU is soldered on to the system board.

As far as my express card slot issue goes, the cage is attached to the motherboard, which is only available as the motherboard part, so no replacing of the entire motherboard for me.

Yes, as I recall M1530’s GPU is soldered on to the motherboard.
I really don’t understand why DELL connect even the easily breakable mechanical parts to the motherboard, maybe they can save few cents off the manufacturing costs, but in the long run having to change the whole motherboard for even the tiniest part that breaks down, does it really worth the trouble?
