You're right that your laptop shouldn't be throttling, even after hours of gaming. Even though your GPU temp is higher than the CPU temp, I think the CPU really seems to be the issue (perhaps the heat of the 4670 adds to it since they share a heatsink). But I guess either way something needs to be fixed so it's probably time to give Dell a call.

Hey guys, dell came. replace heatsink and cpu...

There was a LOT of dust and I hope this will be fixed now.

When my laptop started it asked me to restart due to new cpu, I now have i7 920Xm instead 820qm !!!!!

    Kinda love it haha

How woudl taht increase or decrease my temps?

The XM has a 55W TDP, so it will be a bit hotter than the 45W 820, though if you're not overclocking (which you can do with the XM, congrats) you shouldn't notice much of a difference. Congrats on the upgrade BTW, that's like a $500 upgrade.

will the 920xm throttle the same? or does it handle heat a bit better? since i can process tasks quicker?

I can't picture the 920XM itself being any better for throttling, but if being clogged with dust was the problem, it should be better overall.

i just want to say i removed the dust filters and it is a major improvement. 2 minute job, anybody can do it.

before it got to 84C in furmark in less than 3 minutes, now in 10 min is still running at 83 (very close to throttling) :)

This made a great difference to my XPS l502x with a cooler underneath. The mesh was blocking enough of the air pushed by the cooler that it was causing turbulence/preventing forced air from entering my laptop.

I can also safely say that I've made it through yellow dust season here in South Korea without any problems. I opened it up last night to clean, and there was barely any accumulation.

Big airflow restriction caused by tiny holes in mesh they use as filter material.Mine was like putting a K&N air filter on a hi perf car. A lot more air flow now, also like it was said before it's a sticky edge glue easily replaceable.A little goes a long way.Go for it!

I can see the 920xm throttling more due to the extra power draw. You have the 2 biggest power suckers. RGB uses 3x more power then the WLED and now the 920xm. Now if you want me to back these up with hard proof ship the 920xm over to me and ill " run some tests " :p
