You're right that your laptop shouldn't be throttling, even after hours of gaming. Even though your GPU temp is higher than the CPU temp, I think the CPU really seems to be the issue (perhaps the heat of the 4670 adds to it since they share a heatsink). But I guess either way something needs to be fixed so it's probably time to give Dell a call.
-
I called dell and they replace cpu, heatsink and the paste... and then go from there... tmw i can tell u guys more.
-
Hey guys, dell came. replace heatsink and cpu...
There was a LOT of dust and I hope this will be fixed now.
When my laptop started it asked me to restart due to new cpu, I now have i7 920Xm instead 820qm !!!!!
Kinda love it haha
How woudl taht increase or decrease my temps? -
-
-
I can't picture the 920XM itself being any better for throttling, but if being clogged with dust was the problem, it should be better overall.
-
i just want to say i removed the dust filters and it is a major improvement. 2 minute job, anybody can do it.
before it got to 84C in furmark in less than 3 minutes, now in 10 min is still running at 83 (very close to throttling) -
This made a great difference to my XPS l502x with a cooler underneath. The mesh was blocking enough of the air pushed by the cooler that it was causing turbulence/preventing forced air from entering my laptop.
I can also safely say that I've made it through yellow dust season here in South Korea without any problems. I opened it up last night to clean, and there was barely any accumulation. -
Big airflow restriction caused by tiny holes in mesh they use as filter material.Mine was like putting a K&N air filter on a hi perf car. A lot more air flow now, also like it was said before it's a sticky edge glue easily replaceable.A little goes a long way.Go for it!
