    Hello, everyone,

I googled around to see if anyone had done this but got no results. Is it possible to remove the optical drive from the XPS M1330 and put some sort of plastic placeholder there instead? Being able to fit an extra battery or hard-drive would be great, but I can settle for some plastic. Will there be trouble claiming warranty if this is done?

    Thanks for reading.

I haven't heard of anyone doing this specifically for the M1330, but people have installed hard drives in optical bays of other machines time and time again. I don't know if anyone makes a caddy for such a thing specifically for the M1330, but there are likely generic ones that'll work fine.

I don't believe it's possible to wire a second battery in there, but maybe you're really good with soldering, analyzing circuit boards, etc.

If your mod can be reversed and you can put the optical drive back in there, you probably won't have a problem claiming warranty... but maybe not.

Thanks for the info, Commander Wolf. Not having tried this before and this being my main laptop I think I'll stay clear of this then.

The battery seems to be totally out of the question. Ah well.

Has been done on an M1330 before some place within the Mod forum had details on this.
