Yo all - I have a refurb'd L501x that was a replacement for another L501x that was a replacement for a m1530 - all done with the extended warranty. My warranty just ran out - so wondering if you all think it's would be better to extend the warranty by a year (looks like $179 via dell) - or get a new computer. When they replace the computers they don't give you the state of the art anyways (but still better than where I came from), and getting a new spec computer with a plan might be better than limping along with 1 year extensions (unless anyone is aware of any deals on extended warranties). I see xps's going for around the $650 for basic and the warranties are $180... so it doesn't take too many years to add up - but these suckers break enough that it seems like I'm getting upgrades before the contracts are up anyways... :D

In my opinion, the L501x was built pretty well. I got a refurbished L501x with a i3-370m and GT 420m and this thing doesn't overheat at all unless its a really hot summer day and ive been gaming for a while. I don't see it breaking down for another 2 years or so, so I don't think you'll need a warranty. I also had a m1530 and I could see why warranty on it would be necessary since it had Overheating problems and the nvidia chip, but i think the xps 15 is a nice improvement.

OK - well, I think you're right. The first l501x I got had continual screen problems but this display on the i7 based processor seems fine. I think the i5 that I first had had lots of problems with the 1080 screen - not sure if was related to the 2D integrated graphics or not (not sure if the i3 is integrated or
not), but so far so good, thanks for the input.

I bought a refurb too last week. I paid with my cc so I think the 2nd yr is free and included. Did you do the same?
