I want to swap out the laptop's 720p panel with a FHD one... Possible? Does anyone know a reliable source for replacement LCDs?

I don't recommend it since 1080p is a too high resolution for a 15.6 inch diagonal.

The standard (1366x768) display has dot pitch of 0.252 mm.
The 1920x1080 display has dot pitch of 0.179 mm.

Just for reference, Macbook Pro 15.4" can be shipped with a 1440x900 or 1680x1050 display.

Have you ever use the 1080p screen? While the dot pitch is small, the text are very clear to read.

I'd also consider 1366x768 to be too low of a resolution for 15.6".

    On replacing the screen:

I'm fairly certain the XPS 15z's 1080p display is an AUO B156HW03 V0, but there's a decent chance you also need to get a separate LVDS cable. I don't know where to find out which cable to get or whether you need it. I also don't know if other LCDs such as the LG LP156WF1 (TL)(A1) are compatible.

You need to get the 1080p LVDS cable when you do the swap, or all you get are artifacts/discolored screen, at least when I swapped my friend's L501x from 720p to 1080p screen. 20 dollar LVDS cable fixed the issue.

Same here, had to get the cable to go to the FHD resolution.

The FHD cable did work on the 900P screen as well as the FHD screen

Hey Guys, this is my first post on this site! (I joined because of this thread)

I bought a Dell L502x on a budget, and was thinking that the screen was not necessary. Somehow Dell included a Bllu-Ray player in my purchase... but its kidn of a waster since I didn't get a 1080p screen. Now I'm really repenting a 1080p screen cause I've been running out of space a lot recently.

up till now I thought It was impossible to replace a screen resolution with a new one, but you guys have given me hope! Can either one of you provide me a link to the LVDS cable? I can't seem to find that anywhere. Also, what screen should I get? dave-P, you said you got an LG screen? Or can I just choose this one
Dell XPS 15 L502X replacement Laptop LCD Screen from $55.99 Brand-new screens (never used).
    Item ID: 260178

Also, did you replace it yourselves? I'm very poor with hardware and I don't want to risk ruining my laptop, and geek squad is ridiculously overpriced.

    Thanks in advance!

    I bought mine from this website. V73D3 | Dell XPS 15 L501X L502X 15.6" Cables Working Pull.
I also called Dell parts to order one but they said that they don't any so i had to find other ways.

I think the hard part is the part where you take the palmrest off. Other than that, it is pretty straight forward if you follow the service manual from Dell or the L502x tear down thread.
