    Hi guys,

I purchased a new lid and hinges from eBay for my XPS WLED M1330. I currently have the red cover, but the X on the XPS logo peeled off and was lost, so I bought a new black one. It is just the lid and hinges, not the screen.

I did a search but couldn't find any instructions on how to replace it. Is it an easy job does anyone know? Does anyone have any tips/instructions on how to replace it?

    Many thanks,
    Richard

    Success!

Thanks again; followed the instructions, took my time and I had it done in around 40 minutes. My old Red XPS is now a nice new black one!

Although I have one concern; the screen does not seem to be aligned perfectly with the display bezel on the left. There is a 1mm gap between the bezel and the edge of the display where on the right, there is no gap. In otherwords, if I moved the screen 1mm to the left, the gap would disappear.

Maybe I didn't notice it before and I'm just being paranoid, does anyone else have this gap?

Is it actually a gap like a hole, or just the end of the screen where no pixles are displayed? If it's a real gap I'd say something is not right. The screen should align fine when placed inside the lid assembly and you put the bezels back on.

Thats exactly the description I was looking for!

On the left, there's 1mm of screen where no pixels are displayed, on the right the displayed pixels continue right to the edge of the bezel. I wonder if a cable may be pushing the screen slightly to the right or maybe it's normal and I never noticed it before.

Hm, I am not sure? I have something similar on mine, I think it is just the way the screen fits into the assembly. Perhaps it gives a small margin of error for fitting. I have noticed it before but it has never bothered me.

just a quick question, if originally i have the LCD (normal) display, is it possible to buy a WLED display and just install it like the same way?

IF you can make it fit (unconfirmed) you will also need the right cables as well. For some reason cables don't always come with the panel. I saw this happen 2 out of 2 times. Also I think the cable routing is different with the LED screens. All in all it might be worth a try but only if you can send the parts back for a full refund if it doesn't work.

    hi
my stupid mate dropped my m1330 flat on its screen and now there is quite a big crack on the side of the lid.
i have just bought a lid and am about to replace the lids.
i just read through the service manual and it all seems quite complicated. do i have to follow it all and remove the control cover and the screen just to replace the lid? or can i skip some of the steps?
please can someone respond to this.
    thanks in advance

You should follow the instructions. Wires from the LCD display panel are routed under the keyboard and then into a hole so it can connect to the wifi card in the bottom.

    You have to:

    - remove control cover
    - remove keyboard
    - remove bottom wifi panel
    - remove bottom memory/cpu cover
    - then route the cables from underneath and out of the top palmrest grooves so the panel can be removed.

    Hello,

Forgive me for dragging up this old post- I thought it better to do that than start a new one.

Anyhows I bought a new lid off eBay for my M1330 (want to switch from black --> blue).

The blue looks stunning, butttt... before installing I carefully inspected the new lid and found these two wires looking a bit exposed. I've contacted the seller but not sure if I can be bothered to try and get him to exchange it. Am I being picky?

So should I just install it, whack some tape on and install it or send it back and expect a replacement (it was sold as new: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370147114762).

    Cheers for your thoughts!

Actually it looks quite easy to remove the left antenna and replace it with the one from my current lid, as I'm going to have to do with the webcam anyway.

    This seem sensible? Ty

Yep.. the solution you yourself suggested is the best.. and less time consuming too, compared to taking up issue with the seller...
