    Replacing headphone jacks

    One of my headphone jacks on my M1530 is broken and needs to be replaced. Are those part of a separate board that can be hooked into the motherboard without the need of any soldering? I'd like to get this issue fixed, and don't want to send it into dell depot for repair. So if it's just a board that needs to be replaced, I'd like to replace it myself. If so, what would the name of this board be? I haven't had much luck looking through the forum or online.

    If you can find a service manual those often have part numbers listed.

    It's connected to the systemboard (motherboard ) I think all xps labtops have onsite support and dell will send a service tech to your home to replace the part.Once you did not break it. Tell the tech support guy your head phone jack is not work, don't tell him it's broken.

    You can go to dell site and enter your service tag, it will tell you if you have onsite support , make sure your system is under warranty before you call

    if you broke the part , go to dell site and update your warranty to complete care before you call them and they will replace the part. If they determine you broke the part and you don't have complete care , they may charge you about $400 or more to replace the motherboard. I'm not saying you did or you didn't. I'm just telling you the cheapest way to fix your computer.

    The thing is, I already have Complete Care, which covers accidental damage. I called yesterday and told them that I accidentally damage by headphone jack by pulling my headphones out at an angle and having a piece lodged inside. I was able to remove it with some superglue, but now the headphone jack is broken.

    They're telling me that my complete care doesn't cover doesn't have on-site service, so I would have to send it into Depot, which has been a hellish experience in the past.

    So you're saying the entire motherboard would need to be replaced? There isn't a daughter board?

    In that case, maybe it would be a good idea to wait till my warranty is about to expire to get that replaced. Does that sound like a good idea? I'd rather get a brand new motherboard 3 years from now when my computer is 4 years old then now.

    No, just have they replace the item now , and you will be fine , call they up and tell them you have onsite support and you need your motherboard replace, explain to them that's the only thing that's damage and they will send a tech to replace the board.

    My experience with them leads me to believe that they are going to ask me for details. For example, how do I know something is wrong with my motherboard? I'm pretty sure they have my previous call on file, which says that I accidentally damaged the headphone jack.

    remember, no one can tell you crud about what you said, because there is ALWAYS human error, for example, what if it was the cable the one that was broken? or that you were using a smaller connector?

    so you could say that the jack isnt holding the connector in place, and its falling out. Or simply buy the completecare, and then report the case, if they say anything, you have the power to prove them wrong, if you fail, try again, thats how these things work :D

    the customer is always right!

    So what do you think I should say? I already told them that I accidentally broke a headphone plug off into the jack and it wasn't working.

    I've got complete care, which covers the accidental damage, and on-site service. But on-site doesn't apply to accidents.
