From everything I've read the batteries available from Dell for the M1210 series seem to have a life of about one year. The OEM battery on mine indeed bit the dust just after the warranty expired. I was hoping for some advice on which battery I should buy that wouldn't have these same problems.

    Thanks

Have you taken a look at the battery guide?...if you buy a new battery and do not properly "handle" and maintain it, then it will likely have a simlar lifespan.

Yes I've read the battery guide.

I'm just looking for recommendations on which brand to buy to replace my dead battery. Additionally I'm looking for a six cell, not a nine cell.
