1. Policies may be different in india, but I think its within 10 days or something.
2. None. Unless you want a 17 incher or a heavy battery sucking Alienware.
3. lol? your kidding right?
If you have a defective card, get it replaced. For all you know, the defect may not even be the reason that Nvidia is stating. Just like hard drives for example, some small number of them, do have defects. The point is to notice within your return period, and get a replacement. In fact, my first M1530 had a lot of problems, but not with the GPU, and I just got a replacement and everything was perfect.
I'm pretty sure since your not in the USA... your return/exchange period has expired. Warranty may get you a nice refurbished one.
Thats why I keep telling people to do rigorous testing in the first few days of receiving your laptop with the A08 bios just so that you can make sure that things such as what you have experienced don't happen. -
ty 4 ur reply
yea im from india
i have gone thru the del support site they have quote that the return period is around 30 days.
pl take a look here,
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/ap/policy/en/in/termsin?c=in&l=en&s=bsd
but reading all those post im really worried about the heating issue, moreover i don have much utilities to put ma laptop under testing, i live in country side, n i use dial up connection too, it take ages to download stuffs.
so im not able to put ma laptop under rigorous testin
so what i think is i still have time, so i can return , so if its after 30 days from the date of invoice, i cant return, so im thinking of returning?
is it possible to replace ma nvida 8600gt with 8800 gt?
what i can do right now? if i return do i get full refund? -
Ah ok, India has a better return policy than the USA. Thats pretty amazing!
The way you have to think about it is this. If Nvidia had NOT made any announcement whatsoever. Everything would still go the way they are now. Yes there are defects here and there, but the fact is, they are very minimal and can be caught early on with some testing.
You don't need to have a good internet connection. If you plan on playing any games... that alone would be good enough to go under rigorous testing just by playing the game for a couple of hours and see if the games slows down randomly after many hours of play, or random artifacts, flashes, and blackouts show up.
If you want to download, this program isn't that big in size that helps a lot:
http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl
HW Monitor and Everest are not really big in terms of filesize as well. I've lived with a dial up connection for a long time too, those files arn't too big. 3DMark would probably be too big though.
So yeah, if you are within 30 days of invoice, you can return. But because of the fact that it really isn't a bad notebook and there really havn't been any cases of failure even from people who have had theirs for over a year... I highly recommend getting a replacement and just testing out with a game that you intend to play on it that is graphics intensive or the alternatives I mentioned.
You cannot replace the 8600GT with the 8800GT because the graphics card is soldered onto the motherboard so there is no way to swap out graphics cards or anything and everything that is made comes from Dell. Plus it would cause a huge hit on battery life and weight. Plus it wouldn't really fit and require bigger cooling, which is why the Alienware m15x is able to do it.
If you return right now you get a full refund MINUS shipping. Though I highly recommend an exchange. -
hmm how do you know that your card is faulty ? and 65c is normal idle temp in india mate
-
Totally missed that. Yeah, those are normal temps.... XD
-
thanks you so much
i will call up my dell customer care n will talk with em tomorrow morning. As far you say they gonna refund me full, but i guess there will be difference in amount thou, i guess they wont refund me full, i think, hope you can help me, if they credit me the full amount, please suggest me a good laptop?
do you want me to get replace this one with the same model? so like of buying another xps m1530,?
if i can invest little more, what model you suggest me to buy ?
i have planned to go in for HP. i can buy hp dv series but they offer nvidia 8400gs chipset i guesss.
what you d suggest me as far now?
im really waiting for your relpy, n need your help.
you know the sound quality of xps is not upto the mark,?
can you suggest me some models, so i will look for the configuration, im goin thru all the posts of all brands here in NBR,
thanks for your reply -
Hey pal,
Those temp' are normal and I seriously suggest you stick with M1530And how do u know for sure you are having some defect?
In any case, I dont think you should 'return'. Rather go for a replacement. Tell them its way too hot and they replace the concerned parts.
But those temp' are normal and this machine is really good. Think about it -
Personally I would just stick with the m1530 and get a replacement with the same model. It should not cost any additional money except MAYBE shipping and handling.
If you can invest a little more... well... I can't really recommend to you anything because I wouldn't really buy the. The d5t looks nice, but... remember it is a new laptop and there have been numerous reports arising from the laptop being very hot and having a lot of heating issues, which are worse than the M1530, which in my experience has been very cool. Which is the reason why I am recommending that you get a replacement.
The sound quality of the XPS is up to the mark, the HP will be lower quality. The Studio line of Dell also has lower quality.
There are a lot of brands that are nice if you have additional money to spend, but the M1530 has the best overall. Laptops such as the Sony SZ, which is very nice in design, but it is thicker and is more heavier than the M1530 also has a weaker battery life.
There are also positives said about some of the ASUS 15.4'' offerings which someone on the Dell forums had originally considered, but in the end he still stick with the M1530 and loves it. If you value sound quality, one of them has a subwoofer, but then again it doesn't have an HDMI out and is also shorter battery life and slightly heavier.
Despite the gfx issue that really hasn't actually had a lot of real cases except for people talking about defects yet not actually experiencing one... the Dell M1530 really is the best way to go.
Remember that quality typically comes with experience. The M1530 has been out for quite a while now so many of its kinks have been removed. Sure Nvidia announced the GFX issue, but really, if they didn't make that announcement, no one would have known at all since the majority of defects are caught early and many people even those who bought the M1530 when it first came out... are still able to play games at very good settings.
Of course in the end the choice is yours, there are plenty of choices out there including Montevina notebooks. Though the only one that I think really stands out is the d5t, however it does have heating problems so... I'd still say the M1530 is the best way to go.
Like others have said, 65 degrees idling temperature is NORMAL. Though you can still call in for a replacement. I dunno about india, but in USA, its a cross replacement meaning you hang onto your old one until your new one arrives. So you are able to try out both and decide which one you want to keep and which one you think is cooler. (I've done that before myself)
I recommend just hanging onto your notebook since those temps are normal unless you really want to be 100% sure. The money that would otherwise be paid for shipping is better spent elsewhere, like a game you'd like to play for it or something. -
I also returned my XPS M1530 this week(had it 2 weeks). I had no problem except the Dell rep said he was doing me a favor by not charging me a 15% restocking fee. Before they gave me to ok to send it back, they offered me a laptop cooler free of charge. My graphics card hit 100C with 3dmark06. That was just to hot for me. I just ordered a hp dv5t. We will see.
-
100C........ ouch. The Dell rep was kinda not really "generous" since he wouldn't have charged to a 15% restocking fee either way since there is a defect and there is a problem. Plus it is under the 21 day return/exchange policy where its no questions asked so.... yeah, that rep was just trying to sweet talk.
-
under normal as all say its 65c i just run the program which you gave me at link, oh it just 83c n keep goin up?
what do you ppl think now, is 83c ok while playing games, i guess its still crossin 83, i have left the program runnin for 5 minutes?
so if i call in for replacement, wat do they replace,? or do they get me new one? you think its defective chip? wrist pad n the area around touch pad is hotter? what causes the wrist pad on ma left side n the area around the touch pad much hotter?
im goin to sleep now will let you know about this issue tomorrow morning
tyvm Forte for you help n explaination for ma problem, i will think about it n will talk to the dell ppl n let you know what they say about this heatin issue.
thanks 4 everyone, TC
goodnite n bye -
Yeah you better go get some sleep... it should be pretty late in India now
Btw, replacements depend. Since you are withing the replacement time, probably you could ask for a complete replacement. And they should give you once. As, for the temperatures, what do you it keeps going 83C and beyond? don't your fans ever kick in?Anyways, looks like a defective notebook. Ask for a replacement.
-
My first M1530 came with a whole ton of issues. Though I requested for a "full" replacement and got to compare the two. (None were GPU issues though)
Keep in mind that any replacements after that 30day or 21 day grace period, results in refurb parts or refurb units. -
bald where you live in? for me from the date of invoice ie 18-7-08 it will be around 15 days.
do they consider the invoice date or the delivered date?
in the manual they say we need to furnish the error details inorder to claim replacement or credit.
moreover they say we need to pay the shipping charges, n we need to insure the product till it reaches the factory.
bald do you pay the shipping charges, but for me the main dell plant is around 300kms from ma home town. they just say we are responsible for insuring the product returned.
do they exactly refund full credit, im worried that do they refund me?
i need to wait till monday, sat n sun are holidays oh gosh. -
hello
i have filed the returns online, i guess they would call me back on monday, i hve quote the heatin issue, but don know why still ma laptop is hot.
don know hw they gonna process ma returns,
if they replace ma laptop to new one,
how can i know tat model is not defective, should i run the test again?
what if they send me refurb product, how can i know its a refurb one,
i guess anything would happen?
is there anything to check whether i have reeived the new one or the same old with refurb one. im worried about this.
but i have to wait till monday. n i will let you know all whats gonna happen? -
hi everyone
i have tested the laptop just ran an hour COD4 MW ah my gpu idle temp was 65-70c, after playing COD4 MW for an hour my gpu temperature reached 88c, n the games starts to lag n freeze like it was very slow in running, don know why it happened, n the wrist pad, touch pad heated like hell, oh gosh, im really going to return on monday.
but ma gpu temp keep goin up over 88c, so i stopped the game when it started to freeze while in game, the graphics gone slower, so i exit the game n recorded the temperatures.
definitely i will goin to return my xps m1530.?
don know still the 8800 gtx is very expensive here in india?
kindly suggest me a good laptop, how about going with 9700gt?
if i called hp tech support n inquired about dv5t, but they have no idea about dv5t, ? where i can buy a good laptop with 8800gt or other chips except g84/86? please help me, -
I live in GA/USA. I didn't pay shipping charges. They said the UPS would pick it up the next day but didn't. I called and they send me an email with the shipping label. I went to the nearest drop off point and off it went. Two days later I received an email from Dell that they gave me a credit on my credit card. The 21 days starts from the invoice date. As I said earlier, I told them I was returning it because it got to hot. Except for offering me a laptop cooler, it was no problem.
