Okay, folks, after dealing with my poor, seemingly comatose (literally) M1530 from its unreversed journey into sleep mode last week, I was ready to give up and start looking for a replacement...

...but in my frustration, and subsequent discovery that there are a few less-than-obvious "secret" (for lack of a better term) keystrokes that led me to try something. Since I discovered that Fn-Power runs a diagnostic and displays the results among the numlock-capslock-arrow lights next to the power button, and that D-Power runs an LCD test, I thought D for "Display" might also suggest "S" for Sleep, eg force the machine out of sleep.

    I tried it.

    It worked.

My machine *immediately* came out of its sleep mode and (tried) booting. I have other issues with an apparently dead or dying hard drive, but the machine is alive again.

I have never read anything to suggest that "S"-Power really means anything special, so I suspect it was merely coincidence, but it was one that left my jaw dropped. If nothing else, I thought perhaps I'd share the info. If not purely "S"-Power, then it seems I hit *some* sequence that woke up the beast.

That sounds really weird. I heard that if you press SHIFT+ESC+END while booting up, the microphone apertures shoot out confetti and a dove flies out of the exhaust vent. Then the computer plays The Name Game by Shirley Ellis while showing you Michael Dell's secret adult movie stash

Nice...glad this solution, albeit a odd find of one..worked out for you & your 1530. Who knows, maybe it will work for other 1530 owners, if needed! :D If, I still had mine I may have tried it!

    Erm...k.
