does anyone use DVDfab to backup there Bluray disks? im having no luck. I get choppy vids every time in every output setting. I also cant convert my Sony 1080 .MTS files into anything playable.

I have the dxva gpu acceleration off and set to software and that does not work as suggested by a post at the DVDfab forum.

is this a problem with the dual video cards in this laptop?

I noticed your signature........... can you get a 1GB 555?

What do you mean dual video? The intel 3000? I cant imagine the vid cards being responsible for backing up a BR choppy?

I have been using AnyDVD HD to back up 3D Blu Ray movies to .iso files. Play back of .iso files have been flawless. AnyDVD HD has a free 21 day trial period.

    System specs:
    L702x, Win7 64bit, 2630QM, 1080p 3D, 555 w/Tv tuner, 8GB RAM, Blu-Ray burner combo.

    Yes, it's the same thing.

    The 555M has 1Gb dedicated + 2GB shared....total 3GB :)

I thought that video hardware helped with conversions. I have the 550m not the 555. That was a typo.

Is there a link to what the Intel HD graphix and the Nvidia 550m do ? I thought the 550m kicks in when playing games and the intel was used for web surfing ect?

I will also try another ripper I guess. I have the latest Nvidia drivers but I guess that dont matter?

PS: DVD rips work great. I upload them to a media server to make playback for our 1 year old boy easy.

I wish the Bluray and .MTS vids to convert.

I just ripped the BD of Tron: Legacy (God I LOVE that movie) and encoded to H.264 just fine using DVDFab. No choppy, looks wonderful. I'm on the L502x using the 525 GPU. You shouldn't have any problems doing it on the L702 with a better GPU. Something else is wrong. What version of DVDFab is it? Are all your drivers up to date, etc? DVDFab will use the GPU for encoding H.264 using CUDA if you turn the feature on. I'm on DVDFab 8.

I used the DVDFab mp4 defaults (fixed bitrate video). The file ended up being 2 gig. Not bad IMHO considering just how wonderful the quality of the rip is and the flick is on a BD-50 disc. If you need anymore specifics or need me to try something out for you let me know.

Will DVDFab include subtitles on Blu-Ray rips? I've been using HandBrake and it won't. Really need the subtitles since I don't plan on learning Na'avi, Klingon or Russian anytime soon.

For Blu-Ray you need AnyDVDHD, and CloneDVD does not work with Blu-Ray. AnyDVD will rip without CloneDVD, but CloneDVD makes it so much easier to pick and choose what you rip. Excellent software.
