Seeing as how some people have tried the 130w AC adapter for the XPS 1645 i7 models and it solved their problems and how some still have a few issues(less though than the 90w adapter), I am just curious if anyone has tried the higher powered adapters and noticing any improvements as there are 150w, 210w and 230w adapters out there.

I wonder if there is a cut off at some point, as to how much power can be drained through the adapter for this model. Its possible the 130w is the limit and the 150w+ might be more than it's capable to drain and there'd be no added benefit. Who knows, hopefully someone will try it out and will share the experience.

All I know is its a shame that when you opt to get a nice screen (RGBh) and have to spend more money for it you get shafted due to its power usage. In our day and age that shouldn't even be in the list of possible problems, tell me its a driver issue, a bios issue and I'd understand but this is utterly disappointing  .

It seems the laptop at the moment limits itself to around 90w draw. So any adapter above 90w probably wont really solve anything at the moment. The 130w doesnt seem to cure anything because of this. Max420 case had improved performance seemling his system was at the edge and the 130w was able to provide slightly better then the 90w.

Dell will have do something to allow the laptop to draw more power, or keep from downclocking. I would say wait for their fix as it seems theyre investigating at the moment.

Dell reps are saying there's a BIOS update coming in a week or two for this.

I bet they are just going to change it so it throttles the same on battery to limit to 90w to avoid the discrepancy. I hope they do the right thing and ship a bigger power supply and enable for performance on AC power.

atlstang, hope the bios update will resolve the issue, but I believe the adapters might still have to be recalled due to dozens and dozens of people complaining about the hazards of how hot it gets under intense usage, all evidence implying the current adapter just isn't cut out to deal with this power hungry beast.

Tonkadan, I really hope it works out. We're all looking forward to your results.

As far as I'm aware the 130W adapter DID resolve issues didn't it?

Guys let's keep the AC power discussion in the other thread, no need to have 2.
