Bios downloads are usually very very small in size (if I'm correct?!?). However I'm not sure how big this one will be though; still most likely the same. We shall see...I'm all giddy as well.

Does anyone have the guide on how to roll back to A03? I would like to do that if its safe until A07 rolls out.

Guide? Can you not simply run the A03 installer? I honestly do not know.

BTW i'm running A06 right now, is it even possible to roll back?

Just a few, how bad could it be, probably just shave off a couple mhz here and there right?

I installed XP mode on my XPS 1645 with 8 gigs of ram and it still runs slow. Microsoft VM kind of sucks. I switched to VMWare. VMWare will do an auto convert from your Microsoft XP Mode to VMWare XP. My XP system flies even when I have 2 VM opens at the same time.

Quick question: If I buy new SXPS 16 now, will they ship new power adapter...or still 90W?

That is very interesting to hear. I do not have much of a problem with XP mode except that some things take a considerable amount of time. What VM solution do you have to have? Do you know if it is using more than 1 core?

This is the one I've heard great stuff about:
    VMLite XP Mode
Even if your computer has VT-x or AMD-V, you should try out VMLite, because it runs faster, has better graphics and supports 3D/2D acceleration, supports multiple virtual CPUs, supports 64-bit guests, etc.

All Intel Core ix CPUs have VT-x. :D

I followed the adapter issue right from the start but gave it some rest the past few weeks. Glad to see its finally being resolved though.

One question though, how do non-US/CA users get their replacement adapters? How should this issue be addressed on the phone to our regional Dell representatives if they are not aware yet of the situation?

    Thanks.

From dell: For those of you outside the US or Canada, we have no way to dispatch to your countries, so you will need to wait until the regional teams at Dell are up to speed and have messaging out to their frontline agents about how to handle the calls.

So that link that was posted talks about bringing an XPS back from a bricked state, but fortunately i haven't hit that stage yet :p What i'm wondering is if I flash the bios using the winflasher A03 Bios will I have any problems considering i'm at the A06 Bios?

And yes its so I can use Throttlestop in the meantime since i realised i have a 130w adaptor from a older Dell lying around.

Are there any other use case scenarios for the 90W adapter, except using it with your Dell?

I bet eBay will be flooded with them for a week or so!

i have an old inspiron 640m thats using a cheap adaptor from futureshop, but the only problem is that it doesn't charge the battery (?!?!) so it basically keeps my battery at what charge it used to be so i guess i might use my 90W to charge it up every once in a while
also i'm a student so keeping a power adaptor in my bag is quite convenient, but i like your thinking haha nothing wrong with making a few bucks

So am I to understand then that throttlestop doesn't work with A06?

I ask because I just ordered yesterday, so I imagine my system will arrive with A06 as the latest BIOS, because I'm not holding my breath that A07 will be out yet.

(damn... just read that there's a problem with the SSD supporting TRIM as well.)

Where did you read this? I got my XPS 1645 with 128MB SSD back in December and it had firmware that supported TRIM, so I assume everyone must be getting that drive by now. Is there some kind of new bug with TRIM?

Nah, it was an older thread on the Dell community board, but it had posts as recent as today. It looks like the VBM24D1Q firmware fixed it, but not all drives are shipping with it. Maybe all newer systems will. I can hope.

    Here's the thread, if interested:

Got 256gb SSD on Thursday and it supports TRIM. Think it was just the earlier drives with older firmware that never had TRIM. You should be fine!

Hi sorry if this sounds stupid I just ordered my studio xps 1645 and am wondering about this whole throttling thing. Do I have to get the new adapter? How serious is the problem i.e. will it effect you day to day for normal tasks/ how heavy gaming does it take to effect the computer? Can it damage your computer? Oh and I have the 9 cell battery I don't know if that makes a difference.

    Hi again, Bill and everyone.

I was driving to get to play a soccer match before, and I had an idea: why don't you give to the user which sends you the service tag a coupon for the Dell online shop? So anyone could just order the PSU he wants (I saw someone else, like me, that would like a 150W instead of a 130) and from the country he comes from, so overcoming problems for non-US users.

    Just my two cents.

I'm not a gamer, but is 35 fps in Crysis (medium settings) good for a laptop? :)

    i7-820QM
    ATI 4670 (I think)

Seems like its very troublesome to get a SSD with the updated firmware. I have an older version of it that doesn't seem to support TRIM but i think i saw somewhere in the alienware forums here that they were able to flash it with newer firmware. Would that work for this laptop?

I've heard Dell is releasing a new BIOS on Monday/it's looking like people might have the opportunity to get the correct 130w adapter, and I was wondering if anybody knows if the new systems are going to ship with it. Mine is supposed to ship on 2.12

This is why you don't often see company representatives on public message boards. Bill is going to be called out to answer this question three times a day every day until the bios actually ships.

"My brother says a Dell tech in India said...."

I know it's impossible, but can't we agree not to spread any rumor that doesn't start with "Dell-Bill said..." and a link to his comment? Otherwise the signal to noise ratio is going to get very bad.

    A man can dream....

Looks like Dell won't sell the RGB display with an i7. If I go to the Home section and select i7 processor, the RGB is not available. Go to the Biz section, select one with a Core 2 and you magically get the RGB as an option.

That's what I asked DELL-Bill a few pages ago. Looks like you can get the RGBLED screen with the Core 2 and the i5 but not an i7 -- makes me wonder if the throttling issue and unavailability of RGB is related.
