So after installing the new 185 drivers a couple of weeks ago, I turned on SLI, restarted, and forgot about it. Now I just checked the nvidia panel and there is no option to turn on SLI. I went to device manager and only one 8800m gtx is listed there when there used to be 2... seems like the computer doesn't even see the second GPU.

tried reinstalling the drivers but still only one gpu is showing up... any suggestions?

How are you installing the driver? Are you just running the installer or using the Have Disk method via Device Manager?

    What OS are you running?

If on Vista, you should be following this process to ensure proper removal of the old driver prior to installing the new one... see my article here

i followed your guide and it didnt work - still only one gpu in device manager. i'm running vista 64 and i am using the installer on the official nvidia site.

maybe the second gpu failed somewhere along the line?

Possible. You should probably get XPS Support on the line. The Dell Diagnostics (which you can boot into using the diag partition or a USB flash drive) really doesn't do much good IMO on testing. If you are unable to see it in Device Manager and after attempts at reinstalling, they (XPS Support) are probably your best bet.

Sorry to hear you're up the creek --- ouch. You haven't been overclocking have you?

On a side note, I just thought about this - do you have GPU-Z installed? If so, does it see your second 8800M chip? What about Windows System Information ---> Hardware? HWMonitor? Does it show temps for both GPUs? If so, then its still alive - and the troubleshooting can continue.

Nope, no overclocking and everest ultimate can't see 2 gpus either. Guess this'll be my third replacement.
