OK, this topic has only recently started being discussed in another thread but I am really curious if any other 1340/1640 users have run into a similar situation.
The problem:
when typing on the lappy, sometimes the text jumps to wherever the I beak of the cursor is. At first i thought i was accidentally touching the touchpad with the base of my thumb, but now i'm sure thats not the case
I've already tried uninstalling dells drivers, using the drivers from synaptics website, changing the sensitivity of the touch pad, using the touchpad with no drivers at all (windows drivers only)... no luck
Has anyone else run into this problem?
More importantly, does anyone know of a solution?![]()

YES! Me, I get that problem.....
argh -
bringing this thread back to life anyone have any suggestions?

That happens to me sometime, but I am sure its me touching the touchpad.
I had the same "problem" with my old notebook. Just gotta get used to it.
Cheers -
I know it is me touching the touchpad but this is absolutely ridiculous, i'm going to get carpal tunnel if I try typing without hitting the touchpad
how can I disable the touchpad in windows 7... also is there new synaptics touchpad driver/software for W7 because I have 0 control over the settings of this thing -
i went to synaptics website and got the program, I just disabled 'tap to click' and it is fixed, I can't believe it is seriously this sensitive
-
hmm maybe u should check this, it has even multitouch support lol:

My mom's dell Inspiron had this issue.
There is a setting in the Synaptic driver where it says "Tap off when typing" or "Touchpad off when typing". Fixes this horribly annoying issue, especially for those of us with big hands!

I dont see that option anywhere, anyone know where to find it? -
Should be in the synaptics options from the icon on ur task bar. And there should be an advanced options on the last tab where you select the icon you want to display on the taskbar.

got it... it is under pointing device properties -> device settings settings -> pointing -> sensitivity -> palm check... I changed the sliding bar to Maximum and the problem seems to be fixed

after i installed the driver i saw no difference in the touchpad. My computer also started showing me errors, the camera light won't turn off. I have rolled back the driver to the original, but the camera light still will not shut off. any ideas?
