    Hello everyone...

I've got an SXPS 1340, and it seems the left speaker is affected by a mild case of the hardware gremlins; there seems to be a cracking like noise when playing certain (higher) frequencies.

I believe I read somewhere that this is most likely caused because the fan is situated above the hot laptop parts.

Now, I've called Dell, and they said they'll replace the speaker, no problem.

What I WOULD like to know however... does a warranty time start over when a subsystem is replaced?

Because if this is the case, and heat is indeed the cause of the diminished quality of this speaker, then this would mean a lifetime warranty for this laptop, something that's pretty cool.

The warranty is gona stay the same from the day you bought it.....
so if you have 1 yr warranty and ur on ur 1st month that means you gona have 11months left.... I have this problem too and i know its not driver related,,, left speaker thats what 99% of people have problems with because the HOT air vent is right on bottom of it and over a lil time all the heat kills the speaker

IIRC, the speaker is NOT directly above the heat vent - it's beside it. So there should be minimal heat going to the speaker (The same way the heat doesn't affect the battery that's right beside it).

SO why do 99% of the people that reported speaker problems had it only with left one. and we're not talking about the wifi singal problem that made speakers pop that was fixed by wifi drivers... The hardware of the left speaker only makes a high pitch noise when watching dvd or any time of films and music above 50% loudness?

I'd hate for this thread to turn into a "what is the cause of the left speaker failure" type thread. What matters is that it's lifetime seems to be a lot shorter than the right speaker.

Now, I must question your answer regarding warranty... Are you sure? It feels... strange. I mean, I would expect at least some sort of grace period after repairs have been made (if not a full reset of the warranty time), if only to make sure the repairs have been made correctly. If what you say is true, then if someone has a major malfunction in the final week of his warranty, then Dell could patch it up with chewing gum and duck-tape (metaphorically speaking) and wouldn't suffer any consequences.
