I have a Studio XPS M1640 and I'm experiencing extremely slow internet browsing with firefox and ie. My SXPS has the Intel 5300 card, which I've read has problems such as dropouts and slow speeds. I'm also running Vista 64-bit, which I'm assuming could also be part of the problem. Web pages take way too long to load, but my download and upload speeds are the same as they would be if I plugged directly into my router. Has anyone else experienced slow browsing with their SXPS 16? I'd love it if someone could give me a solution to this.

I just plugged the ethernet cable into my laptop and turned off the wireless card; the web browsing speed is no different. This must mean it's a Windows Vista problem. Any ideas about what component of Vista 64-bit is causing slow browsing?

Try doing a spyware and antivirus scan. I have the 5300 and run Vista 64 and I've never experienced poor wireless performance or dropouts.

I'm positive that I have no spyware or viruses.

Yes, my connection is perfectly fine on my other computers. It definitely has to be a Windows Vista issue. Any ideas?

is your firewall allowing the 2 browsers?
have you tried browsing with your security software disabled?

Yes and Yes. I have also added anything related to web browsing to the exception list of windows firewall and my antivirus.

I noticed that web pages with lots of images take much longer to load than ones with mostly text, if that helps at all.

do you happen to know if there are any programs or system processes that take up too many resources that are running on your computer normally? also, does this slowdown only happen if you surf the internet or does it also happen if you use say microsoft listen to music, or play games?

Are you still using the Dell install? This may be a good time/excuse to do a clean re-install which is probably for the best.

This is going from memory of about six months ago...so please don't kill me if I'm wrong here....

With Vista 64 bit and IE if I remember correctly there were two different icons to use....one would be for the 64 bit IE and the other for the x86 (I think) IE. I remember it being really slow trying to use one and it was slooow as hell and then tried the other one and it was just fine. Might wanna check it out.

Like I said...I'm going by memory here. I would check it myself but my desktop is at home and I'm using my laptop right now since I'm out of town for work and all that's installed is Vista 32 bit on this.
