I was just thinking about this and am curious:

Does the 9-cell battery (sticks out, keeps laptop on an angle) have any effect with the laptop's Thermal Paste, either stock or replacement paste like AS5?

Will the paste slowly slide off due to the incline from the battery or does the paste quickly become solid? I know when I put AS5 on, it was somewhat like a liquid.

    LOL... sorry.

The paste hopefully won't harden or turn into a runny liquid. Both are bad. Eitherway you could keep it on an angle for a decade before getting a measurable movement and thats if you lucky. The paste is designed to stick to the metal surfaces. It actually glues pretty well to my gpu since Its hard to lift for a second.

In desktops the paste is eternally at a 90 degree angle and it works fine there doesn't it?

You actually make the best point. But you also reminded me of a time when a desktop layed flat and a tower stood on end.

OK, sorry if it sounded silly, but my thought process isn't completely crazy-

    1. When I changed the thermal paste, it was mostly AROUND the chip as opposed to being on it. I know Dell is sloppy, but it was quite sloppy.

    2. The heatsink easily came off with the lightest pressure.

    3. The paste was gooey, came off easily with Q-tips

    4. AS5 was "malleable" (or mold-able? I mean, I did spread it like the directions said) at room temperature, why not at 90C+ ?
