    Hi,

I have the WLED Full HD display with the 4670 card. The issue I am having is that on the right side of the screen (rightmost two inches) on a white background only on the white area you can see a faint flickering that sometimes looks like waves coming up from the upper right conner. Again, this effect is very faint, yet visible if you know about it. Is like the wind is messing up the "water" or something.

To see it/test it open IE (or notepad etc) at google and look at the right most side in the white area. It is easier to see if the screen is tilted away from you or looking from under, however, I can see it in the regular position I use.

If you have the same configuration can you please check yours if you see anything?

The problem it is not visible in an external monitor.

Dell replaced my screen in which the problem is milder than the previous screen, but it is still there.

I kinda accepted it as fact of life for the screen, however, when I update the ATI driver, during the update process the screen flickers for a second or two (goes black) and after that there is no problem until I reboot. So apparently the driver is reseting something that makes the problem go away.

I now have Win7 RTM, but the problem was present with Vista and in the Dell Diags CD (if you move the Diags window to the right). I have the A10 BIOS, the problem was also present with A8.

The screen brightness setting does not affect it.

I run a couple screen test software with a lot of patterns no additional problems there ,i.e., no distortion of the patterns, other than the above issue on a white background.

I do not mean to be picky about it, but it bugs me since my other laptops do not have this issue and now that I found that the issue can go away momentarily with the driver update/change.

Otherwise is a very beautiful screen and I love working with it!

    Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your time and any comments you may post

I talked with Dell and they are also going to replace the motherboard. Hopefully that would be the end of it. However, if you have the same system configuration can you state if you have the same problem or not. Thanks

I have the same screen and video card and don't have the problem you're having. Hopefully replacing your mb will solve it.

Thanks for the reply. I also tried going back to the A08 BIOS, but didn't change anything. I also found out that on on CCC, under Desktop Properties->Color if click Reactive ATI color controls the problem goes away for a while so I would guess something in the video card's internals is messed up.

Well, the motherboard was replaced along with the LCD (2nd time) and the problem still there. Dell offered a replacement, however, it is going to take 15-20 business days.

BTW, the CCC trick helps in some cases, however, in certain grayish patterns, instead of being smooth, it becomes patches of vertical, diagonal and horizontal lines (only on the rightmost 2-3 inches of the screen). I am still very curious on the cause...

Perhaps you should take the replacement.

I would recomend you take the replacement also, the more they take it apart it is put back together a little worse each time. I saw this personally in my first laptop. If you are not currently eligible for the windows 7 upgrade program getting the replacement would also make you eligible for that(at least it did for me). If there are any other upgrades you want if you accept the replacement tell them what you want and be persistent! I hope it al turns out for the best and that you are satisfied! :)

Thanks for the replies. I did agree to the replacement right away. Sorry for not clarifying that.

About the replacement, I have no reference/tracking numbers. The chat supervision told me to contact him in a few days to get that from him. My system is about 6 weeks old, so I am already eligible for Win 7. I don't really want any upgrade (thanks for the tip anyway), just a fully working system. Minus the screen issue, I love this machine.

About the reference/tracking numbers they should be able to give you a case number right away. The order number should be available within a few days the tracking number may not be available until after you have already received it...

We got sidetracked and they didn't give me the case number. However, I have the chat log (they never had problems looking at past chat logs). The supervisor told me that the order will be created within five bussines days.

I had this EXACT problem. So I called Dell and demanded a complete replacement. The new one does not have this issue.

I got my replacement yesterday. No problems!

    A couple observations:
    1) The screen panel in this one is made by LG vs AUO (the three screens used in my other laptop). I do not know if it was is something with AUO or it was something with the connectors/chasis of the other one.

    2) The screen looks great however I think that the LG panel is slightly less glossy or is more matte vs. the AUO, anyway it is very subtle, and if I am not mistaken has less glare which is a good thing.

Dell was great getting that fixed! Thats why I bought a Dell and thats why I will buy a Dell again.
