I was swept into a stream of thoughts when someone commented that only certain configurations of this baby overheat.
My theory says that people with P series processors are the cool dudes while those with the T series processors are the scorching devils.
Check out my post ' My HOT SXPS 16!' to check out my scorcher.(Sorry for not posting the link, iPhone 3.0 arrives with it's godsend, copy and paste on the 17th you see!)
Post your views on this one. After scrutinizing your config, of course.

well, for the record, mine was a T9800. and i really got to feel it scorching hot. maybe youre right.
-
And mine was a P8600 and it got warm, but not hot and it never throttled. I agree about the configs and I may be the one that brought it up. I believe it may have to do with either the processors or the WiFi card that is in it as I believe it's right there on the left side of the touchpad.
And AMEN on the OS 3.0 thing, I can't wait until Weds. -

I dont agree with this. I have the 8600 and my friend has the t9800 and he has the same temps asmine. To me it seems like hit and miss with dell quality control
and eww iphone. Android Ftw =D -
you dont need an iphone when you have dell studio 16, i havent listened to ipod on iphone much since i bught dell studio 17, rather prefer using the apple in ear earbud on studio laptops.

There shouldn't be much of a temperature difference between a T series and P series processor. The only difference is 10W power draw, and that's only at 100% maximum power. The difference can be very easily overcome by undervolting.

The heat from the SXPS 16 I returned came from the southbridge (bottom of the computer near the touchpad).
I believe there was too much dead space in the front of the system where it gets slim. -
I disagree because mine had a P8600 and it throttled. Thing is, it wasn't the CPU that was throttling, it was the ATi GPU. I'm guessing due to the CPU/GPU sharing a single heatpipe combined with badly placed vents are the cause. Having the hard drive near the palm rest doesn't help matters much either.

I almost thought this thread had shifted to mobile OSs for a minute there!
