Is there any way to configure the SXPS16 to have a BR writer? The most I see on Dell's website is just a BR reader. Thanks

Right now Dell is offering a BR drive free of charge as part of a 2 day XPS 16 sale.

Where do you see that? That's how I'm trying to order and I don't see any free BR drive. You have to add $150 to get it and it's still "(DVD/CD read/write + BD read)" no BR write

Yeah that's where I went, but I still can't see a FREE BR drive.

8X DVD+/- RW(DVD/CD read/write) Slot Load Drive [Included in Price]
BluRay Disc Combo (DVD/CD read/write + BD read) Slot Load Drive [add $150 or $4/month]

    Those are the two options

I asked this as well in another thread. I do not see a BR "writer" listed as an option for this laptop. A BIG let down as it's a nice machine. Both HP HDX models (16t and 18t) offer BR writers. As well as the Dell 1530. I'm sure it's coming, but that doesn't help those who are looking to purchase in the very near future. Shame on Dell. MacBook too for that matter.

Oh, I noticed no TV tuner option either. Also a let down with a supposed high end notebook.

That's because the free BR deal expired as of 12am. What's left for $1349 is the T9550 CPU and HD Display. The was a killer deal, all the above plus a free BR drive for $1349.

 I don't think so. I have a configured system from yesterday (screen shots, etc) and there was no free BR reader offered. And they do not have a BR writer option at all. What it continues to offer is the CPU indicated, the RGB LED, 500GB drive and regular DVD drive. The deal has not changed as of 04-08-2009 6:42PM PST.

    Oh yes there was. ;)

I was going to buy the lappy for $1349 which included a free BR player. I didn't buy it because I couldn't figure out a way to buy it with my Dell business credit line. The deal started 6am CST. I no longer had access to it by Midnight EST.

I'm not sure which link you followed, but I was awake at 6AM CST -- looking forward to a comparable system to the one offered by Best Buy -- and did not once see a blu-ray drive included for free. It was the one thing I was hoping for during this event.

I even configured quite a few mock builds, remaining under the "DYDOFJ2" link throughout the entire day, but never was the blu-ray drive offered to me. If it were possible for me to get the XPS 16 with blu-ray, T9550, RGBLED, 500GB HD, free shipping and all of its normal specs for $1349, I would've grabbed it the second I saw it.

I'm not calling you a liar, but perhaps you have some preferred or business account that offered this deal to you. It sure wasn't available to the rest of us.

I don't know HOW you guys missed it. It was as plain as day. Dell put the XPS 16 on sale yesterday and put it on their front page. You clicked on XPS Spring sale and it took you to the XPS spring sale main page. Right in the center of the page was the XPS 16 for $1349. When you clicked on the "Buy Now" button it brought up the preconfigured XPS 16 with a T9550 CPU, WUXGA 16" RGB LED display and a BR drive.

Like I said I put the laptop in my cart but didn't buy it because I couldn't pay for it with my Dell business credit.

He is very correct on this. I saw it as well. Front page on the Dell site. I need a BR burner and would prefer a built in tv tuner so I passed. Excellent specs though for $1349 and free BR Rom to boot. Was hard not to buy, even if it didn't cover all of my needs.

I feel bad for those that missed this. Spec it out now and it's quite a bit more expensive. I know there's a "deal" section on this board, but if you don't browse there, you can easily miss one day/short term sales. And those are the best deals. Too bad we can't have a sale "sticky" at the top geared for that particular model/section. Probably too big of a pain. I bet if more realized that deal was going on, they would have jumped on it. Hopefully there will be another deal for those that missed out soon. There usually is.
