Hey just registered on the forum, I placed an order for a M1530 today. I had an order in for an XPS yesterday but I decided to make a change to the config to get the better vid card. When I was talking to the sales guy today he seemed to be working pretty hard to steer me towards a Studio 15 with similar specs for $70 less, but I just felt better about the XPS config I came up with. Tell me how I did :

Did you use a coupon? I'm pretty sure there is a 30% of coupon right now (or 25%?).
-
Got eppbuy discount through work. Can that be combined with a coupon?
I'll be getting the $70 gift card with the extended accident protection. -
Yeah I would try the 30% code from the dell coupons section cause I got the same configuration as you but with a Blu-ray drive($400), 9 cell battery($169), and 320GB HDD 7200rpm and my total with shipping is $1,527.41. The 30% code is the only dicount I used unless I got another dicount for my Dell preffered account? But my order looks like this

Well that kinda sucks, I missed the 25% coupon before it expired. I tried running through a config with the current 20% coupon but putting that on kills the instant savings they have going on now actually making it more expensive.
That's a helluva deal on your build, don't know what I'm missing to get similar. -
Heres my story...the short version...lol

read your post that is still a crazy deal, I'd be jumping up and down as well. I'll have to call and see what I can work out. I'll have to wait my original order clears off my dell credit account before I can re-order though. Regardless though I can't wait till I get my new system, it's gonna be sweet.

Depends on which configuration you start with before you even customize. I started with the $1,099 one then upgraded everything and somethings were already automatically upgraded. When I tried to use one of the already higher priced configurations, the component selections were all different. Example: the $1,099 one automatically had the 4MB but on the Higher ones its 3MB and 4MB is an upgrade. They also had different HDD selections. The lower came with a 320GB 5400rpm but the higher one came with a 250GB 5400rpm and the 320GB was an upgrade. This is how he explained it and also said different components and combinations of different components can also add new discounts or promotions.
If he gives you a really low new price then you'll know your in good shape. You can either keep the new low price or add any upgrades you wanted. The worst that can happen is the price goes back to where it is now but you'll atleast have some upgrades.
Hope any of this info helps and I wish you luck. Give em' a call. I'm sure it was a mistake and I was lucky, but it doesn't hurt to try!! -

If your going to cancel and order again...Make sure that the amount is credited and cleared off your account at 100%.....Get confirmation and actually talk to DFS to make sure that it was.
When I had to cancel my original order for my 1530 and reorder, it was cancelled on the phone with the Rep, and cleared out. However, the amount was still showing up for some reason! So, when my order was going into production, it got bounced back ~ because my account was not credited the right way!
You want to make sure you have no potential *hold-ups* on your new order!
And, good luck to you! Be prepared to be *more than happy, once you get your lappy*

Well tried calling the sales rep back, he said that the coupon code is only applicable to the full retail price and replaces the instant savings, and that it can't be combined with the employee purchase program discount. I noticed that when you go to the regular page it shows different configs for the m1530 than when you go to the eppbuy page. I think CBC's sales guy must have made a mistake. I was happy with my buld and price so if I can't get any better deal than what I have it'll be OK.
Still can't wait to get my system though. I'm looking to run photoshop and lightroom on it, which should be faster than my current desktop. -
You have some really extensive protection on order! But I have no clue why you're paying 100 something dollars for that Verizon card. Also, don't pay $250 for a HD upgrade to 250GB, you can buy a much better HD off NewEgg for cheaper. Besides, the base 160GB should be plenty, ask yourself if you need 90GB extra RIGHT NOW? You can probably buy dirt cheap and 7200RPM drives at NewEgg around holidays, so why pay for it now?
Here's the configuration you can do, if you cancel right now:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1
Midnight Blue
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440x900) & 2.0 M
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
160GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition
Get $70 Dell Gift Card with 4Yr InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis
Add Accidental Damage and LoJack Theft Protection to 4Yr Warr.
Finger Print Reader XPS M1530
Same as yours, but $1,485.40 before taxes, using coupon code JD2BSBJQDWF?4L and buying through Dell Home, not EPP - use the M1530 that starts @ $999 and work your way up to ~$2000 and apply this 30% coupon. I'm ashamed of you, cancel that order immediately and use this coupon while it lasts! You can even add on your useless little quirks here and there with this big discount. Or even do what CBC did if his config comes with the warranties/sound you want. Either way, the coupon saves you around $300. Maybe that's chump change to you, but that's moola to me!
-
Okay after looking at the numbers a little more what I see is that with the EPP (12%) and the instant discount on some configs I'm getting the same as using the 30% coupon through home sales.
So the big difference comes down to the specs, and it is a good point about getting the cheaper hard drive and then changing it out later for cheap. I'll have to think about that. The verizon card I don't see a need for now but that could change in the future.
I appreciate everyone's input, thanks. -
Oh and back to my original post. What does everyone think of the Studio compared to the XPS? Even though you could spec out a studio laptop close to the XPS for a little bit cheaper (plus they were going to throw in a Flip video camera) I liked the XPS better for its design and materials. The MediaDirect sounded like a cool feature too.
Sales guy tried to sell me on Studio 15, went XPS instead
