I have been looking around for the answer to this but I'm still not sure.

I downloaded HwInfo32 and it says my firmware version is "Drive Revision: VBM24D1Q"

And then below it shows "TRIM Command: Supported (Indeterminate Read After TRIM)"

Does this mean mine already has the trim firmware?

Guys, if you have a Samsung SSD without trim, just call up Dell if you still have warranty. I had one without trim and I had noticed it had slowed down tremendously (freezing, lagging). I called up Dell and after doing many tests, they sent me out a new SSD. It was the same model as the first post with a manufacturer date of Jan 2010, and yes, TRIM enabled.

So, just call up Dell, and tell them that your SSD is starting to slow down, and they should send you another SSD.

I am sure a firmware update should come out soon anyway (hopefully).

The only thing about the firmware updates is it erases the whole disk, so you end up having to format again, set up, drivers, etc.

    Fred get this app: http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html

Then look under the the Drives node, then (s)ata/atapi drives, then the SSD.

It will tell you the firmware version and if trim is supported.

You can confirm it through DOS command if its enabled or disabled.

Not sure on that one. How many different FW's does Dell have?

Would a firmware upgrade erase my entire drive or have a risk of bricking my drive?

No...one bricks their drive when they use such things as Corsair firmware updates on their Samsung drives. They are the same drive essentially but not totally.

Did you check yours if TRIM enabled yet?

I would also suggest you to take some extra steps to make sure that your drive is good to go.

Update 2/12/10:fr0x has sent along this warning for people using the new PM800 drives w/the VBM24D1Q firmware:

    More updates from this thread.

I used HWInfo32 and CrystalDiskInfo and both say TRIM is not enabled. I'll read your linked thread. My firmware is VBM94D1Q though. Thanks!

Hmmm OK I don't think that thread discusses my FW ... For some reason it seems like I'm the only 1 with a firmware that has 94 in it ...

I just go off Delhi support chat ... they are sending me out an new drive. It was a massive hassle to get them to acknowledge the issue. Of course, I didn't quite go at it the right way, should have told them I was getting a BSOD.
