Does anyone have a rough idea of when they will be reaching us across the pond?

I've spoken to a few CSRs and they've all turned me away with the same line, that they have no idea when and they wont know for a while.

Apparently it was scheduled for the 4th of Feb and got delayed - you've all heard about the Sandy Bridge thing - but a newer date of the end of Feb, possibly the 27th/28th of Feb was announced, though I can't recall the name of the tech blog that said it.

I've been waiting over a month now to get the XPS 17 and will be holding back for the line refresh, after all, there is no point paying full price for an end-of-line model if a newer, higher spec'd model is right around the corner.

Anyone else dying for the XPS refresh?

Update: Dell blog says "Once we have new chipsets from Intel in early April"

    Thats quite the wait!

And to think I bought my i7-720 thinking I would be happy for the next 2-3 years atleast. Just bought it a little over a year ago, and now I'm preparing to buy this with no second thoughts. And now I'm kinda thinking the same again, lets see how I feel in a year.

I make myself laugh thinking about it and even though i know it'll be outdated soon, the urge is too strong. And I know I'm gonna want the next new thing when that come out and I'm probably gonna get that aswell.

    smh, I hate technology.

Buy the latest stuff, move into a cave, problem solved!

But seriously, how much better is SB for the same buck you spend? I don't really care about 3D cause it's pointless and useless for me, but if the SB processor is indeed much better than the current ones for the same price, I'd rage quite a bit. It also depends on how well the i7 performs, hell, I might not even use 70% of the i7 power so why'd be want to spend more money buying a new one just to feel good?

Anyone has any idea which kind of Panel they'll ship in the new L702x?
I'm really unsure if to buy a XPS17 now and swap the screen myself or wait for the new XPS with Sandy Bridge and fullHD screen... but I'm scared the new fullHD panel may have the same "terrible" viewing angles of the current L701x panel.

    Apparently, LCD options are;
    1. 17.3" 3D LCD, 1920x1080, TrueLife glossy panel, WLED (to be provided with 3D shutter glasses).
    2. 17.3" 2D LCD, 1600x900, TrueLife glossy panel, WLED.
    3. 17.3" 2D LCD, 1600x900, TrueLife glossy panel, WLED, with Multi Touch screen (to be provided with digitizer).

I dont care for 3D, its in in infant years and no point getting it at this step.
But i really want/need SB, I'm gonna be jumping from 1.6 to 2.3 so I'm all ready money in hand.

But other than having the latest tech, I need it for rendering, my 720 just isn't cutting it.

I'm going to opt for the 3D screen cause its 1080, as opposed to 900, not because its 3D. I want SB more than anything else really.

Does the 1080p screen come with 3D or is that option separate. If its one and the same, then i guess im gonna be getting 3D, cool. :D

What are you trying to render? 6MB/s and 1920x1080 video? What rendering times are you getting on average with that processor?

Ah okay, the OP had "So it appears the 3D refresh for the XPS line is live on the stateside dell.com site, does anyone have a rough idea of when they will be reaching us across the pond?"
Thats why I thought it was available already. My bad.

It was pulled due to the sandy bridge fiasco, along with the XPS 8300, the Vostro 460, the Alienware M17x R3 and the Alienware Aurora R3. I apologise, for saying that in first post, I could've sworn I'd seen it live, with most of the specs, like baseline models at 6gb ram design studio on the 17" etc

Well I'm mostly working in AE, and it depends on how long the video is or how heavy the effects are; I do most my work in 720p. But a 20-30min clip with just a 10 sec intro, some colour correction, and some light effects, takes 2-3 hours.

    (I'm working with 4GB RAM)

    Maybe its just me.

Don't think anyone would, the link is probably only useful to check what they would offer.

And maybe I'm wrong but i don't think they would except orders if made from there.

That link is only to check what they are going to provide
you cant access that link from dell.com
and obviously you cant order it

xps 17 has higher base configuration this is the reason
    why it is somewhat costly

hope so xps 15 is cheaper

So i plan on getting the XPS 15

And if the upgrade prices are the same as the XPS 17 then my plan is most probably down the drain.
I'll list my wanted upgrades (from base config) with the XPS 17 prices below and maybe you guys who have further insight could maybe tell me if some things would be cheaper on the XPS 15 or even available at all.

    Base:
    i7-2630QM
    4GB RAM
    500GB HD
    Intel 1000
    No Backlit KB

    My Upgrades:
    i7-2820QM - $325
    12GB RAM - $125
    256GB SSD - $600
    Intel 6230 + BT - $35
    Backlit Keyboard - $40
Creative SoundBlaster Thing - $20 (might as well)
    2 Year Advanced Service Plan - $209

So thats a total of $1145 (no Accidental Warranty), or $1354 (with Accidental) worth of upgrades.

I'm hoping, or was kinda sure before checking this, that my XPS 15 total would be under $2000. $2500 MAX. And all this is only possible if my plan works out, which isn't for certain.
I honestly think the SSD is overpriced, I only wanna get it from Dell so that it would be covered if anything were to happen, and they could atleast give a 6300 WiFi card.

(Im not as happy as my avatar right now)

An FYI.. I know for sure that beta units of a L702x model are going out to US testers at the end of feb. No official details from test machine specs yet. So in the US april/may might be somewhat accurate. One thing of note, the beta test was planned before the sandy bridge bug surfaced. So I'm not sure if the bug had any bearing on the delay or not.

i guess 4 GB -> 12 GB upgrade (if incase they offer) should cost be more than 125$ on the XPS 15
