I came across a Crimson Red M1330 that fried the motherboard due to the nvidia GPU. My buddy got it second hand so it was collecting dust and about to be tossed out. It was missing the HD and memory and had that 1.5Ghz CPU. For about $230 US, I installed the integrated Intel motherboard along with the correct heatsink for that motherboard, added a 16GB SSD (more than enough for Win 7) along with a T5800 2.0Ghz CPU and added 2gb of memory. It's not as fast as my main M1330 but it comes damn close. Another M1330 lives on. :)

Next up on the project list is to convert my main M1330 to a Samsung LED.

I thought about doing that and when I told my wife she said "who's stove/oven are you planning to use for this?" :-D

I wanted to tear down a M1330 anyway so it worked out well and none of our food tastes like circuit boards. :-D

How about a $20 heatgun from your local hardware store?

There are many guides about using heatguns to fix GPUs, even on youtube...

Yep, no big deal. The fix would have probably lasted a week anyway.
