Hey everyone,
I just purchased a Dell Studio XPS 13 a few days ago, and I opened my laptop the other day at a coffee shop and noticed that there was a black area in the top left hand corner of my screen. I proceeded to wipe it away, thinking it was just some residue, but when it wouldn't wipe away I began to worry.
Later that evening when I had gotten home I checked the laptop while it was turned off, and noticed that it is scratched behind the plastic! I almost had a heart attack! I called Dell and they told me it was a cosmetic fault and was "accidental damage" and told me that I must pay to fix it.
I just shelled out $1500 dollars for this, I'm a student on a tight budget and I've never seen anything like this! How does a laptop's screen scratch from in behind???
Please, does anyone have any suggestions? I need to get this fixed as I don't want it to get worse, and there is no physical damage to the laptop which is really puzzling. If I dropped the laptop it would be broken! But when something like this happens, what should I do?
I have attached pictures to show you what has happened,
Thank you for your feedback! I'm not entirely sure what to do

If you can't get understanding from the usual costumer support people.... always ask for their superior.
I am not sure how your screen got damaged. But if it's from inside you can always invoke a factory defect that only showed up now. -
Looks more like some trapped dirt, are you sure it's a scratch? Tell them and they should replace it.

That looks to me as though there is some dead pixels there and by the amount of complaints on the internet about poor quality control regarding these laptops they are aware of it, if it's not crap behind the screen which also is complained about then it's dead pixels.
They should replace it and I would make sure they do, I would also take the advice and speak to a manager straight away if some idiot tried to say you got to pay for that to be sorted out. -
Just been looking further, and I would say that IS dead pixels, say that then they can't argue and must replace it.

If it's within the 21 day return window, just send it back and order another one.
p.s. I saw your two pictures and that doesn't look like damage. -
Good Morning everyone,
Thank you for the input, I took the screen captures and sent them to Dell. I was on the phone yesterday for approximately 40 minutes and they accepted to replace my screen without charge.
Unfortunately I bought this after my last laptop died 15 days out of its 2 year warranty. Looks as if my luck with laptops is on a sour stretch!
Thanks again! -
hmm talk to the dell on call online people they let me fix my cosmetic issues under warranty and hopefully they will for you also
