I'm in the market for a second computer to compliment my current laptop. The 8600GT works great for gaming, but as I started playing the more recent titles, the fps started getting lower and I had to reduce my graphics down significantly for good playability. I was going to get a Dell E when it comes for excellent portability, but I have become fascinated with building an extreme gaming desktop. I haven't built one before and it seems like I can make a very good one for less than 2k. I don't want to have 3 computers, so it's either the Dell E or a gaming desktop for me. Disregarding prices, which would you prefer?

Hmmm, probably put this thread in the wrong section.

I prefer a laptop for gaming as i have to share the desktop with the whole family and dont play many games at all. But obviously you will get a lot better gaming peformance from a desktop.

Yeah, desktop is always better than laptops for gaming, in my personal experience. Better specs, better cooling, easily upgradable, you can't go wrong.

Gaming or no gaming. Cheaper or not. Just build your own. You can get EXACTLY what you want when you build. The exact case you want. The exact MB features. Every piece of your own choosing. Forget choosing between a couple of options. Build your own and your options are limitless. I'll never buy another OEM desktop again.
